This person currently has a successful American television series, and was once on a cover of THE RING magazine. Who is this person?

I really have on clue on this one. Is/was he a professional or amateur boxer? I'm thinking he must be because the only non boxers I remember on the cover in the last 25 years or so are Cosell and De Niro.
PLEASE HELP!

"The Contender" isn't currently being aired.

I knew that would come up. Though it may be in syndication on some sideline cable channels.

Well, I don't know if that qualifies. But to get technical, I did say "was once on a cover of THE RING magazine." Holyfield was on the cover countless times.
