Re: Floyd's Animosity Towards Oscar
Im a Floyd fan but its pretty obvious he was always a bit jealous of Oscar.
If i recall correctly didn't Floyd at one point called out Michael buffer for saying that he wanted him to announce his name the same way he announced Oscars name.
Also Floyd was always thrown in the back seat when him and Oscar were both with Top Rank.
Lil things always indicated to me that Floyd was a bit jealous of Oscar.

And was still fighting in empty venues until Corrales, like when he fought Augustus on the stupid Hip Hop boxing show hosted by Ed Lover and Doctor Dre in a half empty venue. Floyd ALWAYS was in Oscar's shadow until he fought him. That is pure FACT.gilgamesh wrote:Not even 2 years into his Pro career Floyd was already a World Champion and Ring Magazine's 1998 Fighter of the Year, and THAT my friend is an actual fact. I guess huge Floyd fans like yourself never got to see him lose so now you spend your days manufacturing psychological defeats.
It wasn't psychological. He didn't win the gold medal. Whether he deserved it or not is debatable but the fact is Floyd didn't win the gold medal that Oscar did 4 years earlier. Because of this, Oscar was a household name before he even turned pro and Floyd was fighting in small venues for peanuts for years and that is a FACT.

Half Empty Venues or no, I guarantee you that once he won his title he was making at least 100,000 dollars a fight. Not peanuts. He was definitely nowhere near the star that Oscar was for a long time, but he surpassed him in the long run.IKSRTFO wrote:And was still fighting in empty venues until Corrales, like when he fought Augustus on the stupid Hip Hop boxing show hosted by Ed Lover and Doctor Dre in a half empty venue. Yeah, he had some jealousy 2 decades ago. Then he beat him easily and surpassed his career in resume and cash.gilgamesh wrote:Half Empty Venues or no, I guarantee you that once he won his title he was making at least 100,000 dollars a fight. Maybe they should settle matters once for all in a steel cage, loser leave boxing wrestling match.

You re one of the best posters here.bnovelist wrote:You notice Floyd never has anything good EVER to say about Oscar or Golden Boy? Till this very day almost 10yrs after their fight Floyd won't have
anything nice to say about Oscar & I know where it comes from. Floyd is extremely smart in terms of boxing IQ. Very smart! I feel he knows deep
down prime for prime De La Hoya would have beaten him. I believe so as well as awesome as Floyd has been but a prime Oscar was really something
else.![]()

He could box, he could bang, he could recover fast. great stamina, knew how to steal rounds, and would push the
championship rounds to really impress the judges. Floyd ain't stupid he KNOWS that a prime Oscar would have decisioned him PRIME for PRIME.
At one time Oscar looked unbeatable even when Tito got that bs decision EVERYONE in the sports bar that night were shocked seeing Oscar
actually lose a fight everyone around that time was high on De La Hoya!![]()

The Oscar that fought Quartey and
Pernell? As great as Floyd has been I can't see him beating that version of De La Hoya! De La Hoya is actually the best WW since the days of
SSL, Hearns, & Duran NOT Mayweather! It's Oscar!
Floyd is still jealous of oscar cause oscar made him.
What was floyd before oscar fight?
A boxer nobody wanted to watch, who wasnt able to entertain crowds (except corales & gati fight). After oscar fight people knew who he was. Without the oscar fight, no buzz, no hype and no ppv mega numbers.

Re: Floyd's Animosity Towards Oscar
It's impossible for people who weren't around when Oscar was fighting to understand what a super-star he was ... America loved him ...
Nobody cares about Mayweather ...
Aside from that, maybe Oscar was never as slick a boxer as Mayweather (even though he was pretty slick) ... but he was a better all-round fighter ... with the accent on FIGHT ... and he fought everybody ...

Re: Floyd's Animosity Towards Oscar
Oscar fought everybody and wanted to entertain. He fought legendary great entertaining fights against atg like prime mosley or prime pacquiao. Fights that will always be remembered by boxing fans. Win or lose he wanted a good fight. Floyd wanted no show, no fight, no entertainmant for fans. He wanted $ and steal rounds. Thats it and than the dumbass is irritated and clueless why most boxing fans dont like him.Sequitorian wrote:It's impossible for people who weren't around when Oscar was fighting to understand what a super-star he was ... The funny thing is floyd himself dislikes watching defence or a boxer being tentative, running. I remember when fliyd was ringside during a pacquiao-morales fight and when pac attacked floyd was standing up and cheering being happy, but when pac was moving and waiting floyd shouting booing.
Yall remember that clip. Its on yutub

I especially remember Oscar's balls to the wall approach to the biggest fight of his career. Few will ever forget that war with Trinidad.

Re: Floyd's Animosity Towards Oscar
Before Oscar fought Floyd, I predicted that the fight would be a draw. It almost was a draw. If just one more round was scored for Oscar, then it would have been. It was a close split decision. Oscar was about a year away from retirement. If Oscar was in his prime, I think he would have beaten Floyd at welterweight or another weight class such as lightweight. Oscar has criticized Floyd for purposefully waiting for boxers to get old and fighting them when they are not in their prime. I have to agree with Oscar. Can you imagine if Floyd fought the boxers that Oscar did? What would his record be? I don't think he would be undefeated.
Re: Floyd's Animosity Towards Oscar
I agree that Oscar is jealous of Floyd. He is also a hypocrite because he wanted Conor McGregor to fight Alvarez. Now that Conor is fighting Floyd, he has criticized the matchup. Also, putting his event with Cotto on the same night as Floyd vs. Conor shows that he wants them to not make as much money. People who are against the Floyd vs. Conor fight and/or do not want to pay for it will watch the Cotto fight.
Re: Floyd's Animosity Towards Oscar
I think jealousy from floyds side. On de la hoyas side hes still bitter about the loss. Floyd really got to him in the build up to that fight.
Floyd was always really in his shadow built up resentment. Jealousys irrational...even when he surpassed him he still has that resentment there that will probably never go.
With de la hoya i dont think he minded losing to a decent person but floyd was anything but at the time. Oscars got his problems but at his heart hes a decent enough man. He would have loved to be the one to shut mayweathers big mouth up...and cant get over that he didnt.
I still think de la hoya should go down as a greater name with the fans. Tbf its hard to promote mayweather as he done nothing for fans just chased the big money for the least challenge. His style as good as it was...was pretty much anti boxing fan....with his round winning approach to it.

I predicted Floyd would win 9 rounds and win a close split decision. That's exactly what happened, I almost won a national contest but I lost by a point or two on one of those bullshit cards.RScarf1 wrote:Before Oscar fought Floyd, I predicted that the fight would be a draw. Re: Floyd's Animosity Towards Oscar
I don't think you can snitch about certain things at a high economic level.
Floyd probably looks at DLH as a guy who is dirtier than him, but still has this Golden Boy image.
In some cultures that is viewed a "smart".
The culture and time Floyd comes from views guys like Oscar extremely negatively.
I think that's the root.
Floyd is better than Oscar at every weight class. Easy.
Floyd has no more money jealousy left. Maybe.
