How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
Just can't see it. GGG is better tha Canelo in every way imo.
Does Canelo have to hope Golovkin has got old? Focus on throwing bodyshots and get him late?

Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
Depends on which GGG shows up, if he shows the form we are accustomed to then there's a good chance he'll go right through Canelo.
But in his last fight with Jacobs he was a different boxer altogether.
Canelo has improved in the boxing department, has power, fairly quick hands and fighting spirit so he could potentially make a fight of it.

Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
Canelo's got faster hands and should be planning to counter Golovkin from mid-range, and then keep his hands busy with body shots and uppercuts on the inside. GGG is hittable, and Canelo has the ability to land eye-catching shots that are easy to remember and allow him to win rounds on the cards even if he's only fighting in spots.
Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
Body shots...and that sneaky outside type right uppercut to the head. Lots of covering up by canelo, using those massive gloves to block punches to the head, thats why I'm hoping Golovkin goes to the body like back in the day, none of this Jacobs head hunting business.
Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
I think that we'll all be surprised by how well Canelo performs in this fight. Out of all the big fights in 2017, no one stands to make a larger leap in P4P rankings that Canelo. Ward would be a close 2nd with his shocking win over Kovalev no one in their right mind saw coming but Ward was already in most top 5 rankings. IMO, the winner of this fight deserves #1 P4P fighter in the world. Hands Down.
Though I think Canelo will surprise some people, i still don't see how GGG loses the fight other than getting pencil whipped by judges. GGG is one of the greatest i've ever seen and i know he's nearing the end and slowing down somewhat but I can't buy in to the fact that he won't be more better prepared than any fight he's been in the last few years. But then again, i can't see Canelo counted out or stopped. Can you? That just seems unlikely.

Solid defense and to get inside to land combinations. He also needs to counter the jab effectively at mid range and stay off the ropes.
Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
Alvarez is going to want to move his head and make Golovkin miss. Golovkin is going to have an easier time finding the body than the head. If Golovkin goes to the body consistently, Alvarez is going to want to counter high.

Didn't you hear? If Canelo wins its because GGG is old. So the outcome of this fight has everything to do with how good or bad GGG performs, not how good or bad Canelo performs.caldo2025 wrote:I think that we'll all be surprised by how well Canelo performs in this fight. I personally think this version of Canelo gives any version of GGG a run for his money.

Not an excuse, fighters age. History proves this as well.NateJR wrote: Didn't you hear? If Canelo wins its because GGG is old. So the outcome of this fight has everything to do with how good or bad GGG performs, not how good or bad Canelo performs.

He should try low blows. Otherwise, his chances are slim.
Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
Age is less of a factor when there isn't a size difference on top of that. And GGG has still been fighting at a high level, I saw nothing in GGG that would tell me he's slipped considerably. He's been fighting better opponents so he been getting touched up a bit more.punchoutsb wrote:Not an excuse, fighters age. History proves this as well.NateJR wrote: Didn't you hear? Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
This makes no sense. Are we forbidden from saying Canelo has an age advantage because hes a massive drainer and has been competing in a weight class below what he should have for over a year..ala Caneloweight? Is that your basis for saying GGG is bigger than him.NateJR wrote:Age is less of a factor when there isn't a size difference on top of that. Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
Age catches up to all of us, size does not. There are many instances in boxing history of smaller men beating bigger men. Can you name any fighters that age didn't effect given a full career? Just calling you on your hypocrisyNateJR wrote:Age is less of a factor when there isn't a size difference on top of that. Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
Not going backwards, not staying at ropes. Avoid GGGs jab. Stay in center of ring and make exchanges with GGG. After first quiet rounds, this should be entertaining fight

He has to hope he got old. Also, the many training videos I've seen of canelo this camp suggests body punching is a big part of his game plan.
Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
Two factors that may come into play in this fight. First, GGG might be drained at this weight and Canelo might be at his absolute strongest at this weight. To me this is a given.
Second, GGG has shown that he relies on his strong chin more than defensive technique lately. He seems to relish walking through incoming punches rather than ducking and rolling his way in. At some point this catches up with the best of them.
We shall see. Can't wait.

That won't be enough. He also needs a dishonest ref.gilgamesh wrote:Dishonest judging

Dishonest judging can certainly be enough. A dishonest ref ain't gonna do him any favors unless GGG slips up and gets points deducted very easily or something.boxing_rocks wrote:That won't be enough. He also needs a dishonest ref.gilgamesh wrote:Dishonest judging

Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
Without a dishonest ref, GGG will likely stop Canelo, so judges won't matter. A dishonest ref can allow low blows, elbows, other illegal tactics, can make KD counts really long, etc. helping Canelo to survive 12 rounds.gilgamesh wrote:Dishonest judging can certainly be enough. Letting a guy hang around that is getting the hell beaten out of him ain't doing him a favor.boxing_rocks wrote:

Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
I hope he doesn't - I want GGG to win this fight so bad!
That said, Canelo has clearly the faster hands, a good chin and hits well to the body, which is the only way I've really seen GGG made uncomfortable. I can see him winning, I just hope he doesn't. If he can make GGG respect his power (like Jacobs did) and throws flashy combos with enough regularity, add in some meaningful body shots, I could see him getting the nod.

By staying in it for 12 rounds. He'll get the decision if it's close enough to be reasonable. I'll put a little bet down in Canelo by decisions, jusy not enough to stop me wanting a GGG KO.
