Floyds Chin
Floyds Chin
Since we all know there is no way Connor can outbox Floyd, much is being made of Connors power and chance to knock out Floyd...I think this as unlikely as a UD for MacGregor. I say this because Floyd has an excellent Chin and recovery. I've only seen him slightly hurt two or three times and he always weathers the storm and comes back, same round.

One of the best chins in the business, also one of the hardest to hit too. If ODH Mosley PAC etc can't put a dent in it, this guy wearing pillows for the first time baby got a prayer!

No way are boxing gloves pillows. Once your hands wrapped proper, it's like a brick with some padding on it.
Re: Floyds Chin
Rocked many times in his prime Floyd, mostly by what would be classed as fairly basic combos & errors, but always came back with a vengeance.
Can he take the kind of punches Judah & Mosley gave him at age 42? If Conor lands a straight and Father Time has been to see Floyd the world will feckin end right there and then and the Irish will become the new ISIS.
Just dug a memory jogger up of the times Floyd has been in trouble in his career, and you can see he's vulnerable if anything to wild hooks on the break which is where he'll end up if Conor comes out fast.

I know that mate, but people keep going on about his KO power, buts that's wearing small mits, I doubt it's as effective in glovesTomasino wrote:Nightmare Roy wrote:One of the best chins in the business, also one of the hardest to hit too. Re: Floyds Chin
Tough to say because he's only taken a small handful of full bloodied shots.
Mosley nearly had him out of there but his survival ability was remarkable.
Maidana landed a hellacious shot on him in the 2nd fight but lucky for him, it was right on the bell... and in his corner, so he literally just wobbled his way to his stool.
Chop-chop Corley hit him really clean too, and that guy could really punch, Floyd took it fine.
Overall I'd say his chin is what you'd expect for a fighter at elite level.

Floyd's chin is very very good, his powers of recover are excellent, and his ability to avoid the follow ups is exemplary.Ricky_ wrote:Tough to say because he's only taken a small handful of full bloodied shots.

He's been hurt by some very big punchers, but they were never able to capitalise on it, and he came roaring back in each case to dish out the punishment himself.
Re: Floyds Chin
Indeed, there are certain fighters that just seem like they won't get stopped; Froch, Abraham, Bhop. Floyd's probably one too, (although I think if Mosley had been a few years younger he possibly could have got it done).jamesmcdonnell wrote:Floyd's chin is very very good, his powers of recover are excellent, and his ability to avoid the follow ups is exemplary.Ricky_ wrote:Tough to say because he's only taken a small handful of full bloodied shots.

Re: Floyds Chin
I think both Mosley and Oscar at 147 would have presented very big problems for Floyd. Mosley had lost some of his timing and his combinations weren't really there any more, and Oscar wasn't able to sustain his effort.Ricky_ wrote:Indeed, there are certain fighters that just seem like they won't get stopped; Froch, Abraham, Bhop. I think both guys would have had a very good shot at a decision win, I'm not sure that Mosley would have stopped Floyd, he's just such a canny guy, that I think even in losing he'd have found a way to survive.

Yes, you can tell he's had hard sparring sessions where he's learned those survival skills.

I also think it comes down to a very powerful will to survive and succeed. He's mentally as tough as any fighter that ever lived, and incredibly disciplined with it.TheLeprechaun wrote:jamesmcdonnell wrote:Floyd's chin is very very good, his powers of recover are excellent, and his ability to avoid the follow ups is exemplary.Ricky_ wrote:Tough to say because he's only taken a small handful of full bloodied shots.

True, I've been hit with the MMA gloves in sparring and it is more painful but I reckon it's a duller, heavier hit from the boxing gloves. I'm sure it's been shown they have a similar amount of padding over the actual knuckles

What people forget is that gloves are there to protect the hands, not the fighter being hit.Tomasino wrote:Nightmare Roy wrote:I know that mate, but people keep going on about his KO power, buts that's wearing small mits, I doubt it's as effective in glovesTomasino wrote:

The glove actually spreads the impact across the cranium because of the greater surface area, making it more likely for concussion to occur, not less.
Re: Floyds Chin
There is probably the same 4oz padding at the front of an 8oz boxing glove has there is an MMA glove. Thew boxing glove has the other 4oz around the fingertips etc. Not much difference on impact I reckon.
And no I am not trolling, Floyd has been rocked many times. The video tells no lies. He took them all very well though.

Re: Floyds Chin
Solid chin + great defense = very tough to hurt
Mosley really staggered him and Corley had him in a bit of trouble, but that's pretty much it. He did go down against Judah (no KD called), but I don't think he was hurt.

Re: Floyds Chin
Good chin. Never dropped (officially) in 49 fights.
Excellent defense. Seldom hit cleanly enough to even have the potential to hurt or drop him.
The best punches Conor throws in the fight are gonna hit gloves, and air.

Re: Floyds Chin
He was officially dropped, but it was a strange situation where he took a knee due to hand pain.
Re: Floyds Chin
3 of them hit him on the chin and stiffened his legs. 3.
Rocked many times.

Re: Floyds Chin
Yeah I forgot about that. As you mention though that doesn't exactly play into his chin. In fact, that's about the only time I've ever seen a dude knocked down due to hand pain, but that was indeed the case on that one.crusader wrote:He was officially dropped, but it was a strange situation where he took a knee due to hand pain.

There are guys that get rocked 3 or more times in a single fight. You think 3 over the course of an entire career is "many"?stufm wrote:3 of them hit him on the chin and stiffened his legs. 3.

He wasn't hurt no but he stuck his chin face first into a hook when he was reaching for a body jab. One of his rare mistakes actually, the body jab is such a great shot for him now, he wouldn't get caught with his chin exposed like that again. One of the reason I give conor literally no-chance, Mayweather is long past the point of making mistakes.
