WBC unveil special commemorative belt for Mayweather-McGregor

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

The final Mayweather v McGregor press conference took place tonight in Las Vegas and was a rather a tame affair.

The event at the MGM Grand was open to media only and, with McGregor arriving extremely late, it was a muted conference.

One tidbit that did come to light was that there will be a belt on the line on Saturday night.

Mauricio Sulaiman, President of the WBC, was present and the Mexican is backing boxer Mayweather. ‘Money May’ is a five weight champion, and won the WBC portion of the crown at each weight.

Sulaiman described him as the WBC’s “most loyal champion,” and has commissioned a once-off commemorative belt for the fight on Saturday. In through Mayweather style, the belt is called ‘the WBC Money Belt.’

The belt features 3,360 diamonds, 600 sapphires and 160 emeralds as well as 1.5kg of 24 carat gold, and is made from alligator leather. The belt is off-centre to preserve the natural flow of the leather.

Cheeky beggars!
I wonder what sort of cut from the 250 mil they are asking for?
If I was McGregor, I would turn it down

I don't see why a commemorative belt would be awarded to the winner of a fight between a legend and a novice.

Biggest commercial fight in history? Biggest TV audience? Does it not elevate the sport of boxing, by keeping it in the casual mainstream spotlight?

What happened to boxing after the last epic PPV? The blow back was so severe that even Mayweather says he needs to be more exciting this time. After this sham, PPV sales will continue to be dire and the sport at a low while a select few remain ultra rich. Great for the sport, indeed.

You would think that the alligator leather would have no imperfections, but on the right side, it looks like there is a crater in it. You can see a little of it in this photo, but you can see the whole thing on news websites when the belt is not curled.

Has either fighter agreed to this belt, or is it like the cinco de mayo (?) one which ended up redundant as soon as it was announced?
Can they smelt the Gold back out of it and pick out the jewels so they can make commemorative rings for the general public?
Floyd would probably like the belt, it's tacky enough to fit his style. Probably turn up on fleabay in ten years as part of a bankruptcy asset sale.
I wouldn't expect Connor to give a toss about it, not that he will ever get to wear it unless he is the top bidder in the fleabay auction- that would be more his style

Connor barely deserves a glance at even this fake belt, it's as close as he'll ever be to it. What he hypothetically would do is a joke, he is going to prove he never deserved to step foot in a boxing ring. Even a fake belt is far too much recognition for him.

I think it's the WBC taking a shot at Canelo for how he acted towards them.
