Orlando Canizales
Not a fighter that gets mentioned often. I used to like his style. He had a 50(37)-5-1 record and never stopped. 4 of his 5 losses by SD/MD. 16 defences of his title, a great little fighter. Anyone else a fan?
Re: Orlando Canizales
One of my favourite BWs. Accurate crisp combination puncher. Set his punches up well and was diligent with his bodywork. I do seemed to recall he did have a habit of cruising along against some opponents, making them closer than they maybe should have been. But a great little fighter none the less.
Also a fan of his brother Gaby, a bit more loose with his style and had a big punch. Not as consistent as Orlando but an entertaining guy to watch.
Its been years since i watched any of Orlandos fights... might rewatch a few over the weekend.

Watch his fights on youtube and you will quickly be reminded how special he was. His footwork and combination punching was epic. He didn't punch with the power that his brother Gaby did, but he could crack and was a spectacular body puncher. He was a fantastic fighter who lacked big time competition. He may have stayed at 118 too long I believe. He didn't have much left by the time he started campaigning at 122.
He is deserving of his Hall of Fame induction.

i can't add any more to the good posts already made, a very eye-pleasing style, technically-adept and at his best aggressive with it.
Re: Orlando Canizales
loved him ! and if I remember rightly both him and his bro had world title fights in british leisure centres !

Re: Orlando Canizales
Couple of great fights with little Billy Hardy from the UK.....who was actually a top Bantam, forget the Hamed fight at Feather.
Coming over to a rowdy sports centre in a place like Sunderland and keeping your belt (just) takes a bit of doing.
The first fight was on YT a few years back and is a cracker. Canizales has the quicker hands, better moves but Hardy is all hustle, bustle and fierce workrate.

Re: Orlando Canizales
Much more complete boxer than his brother Gaby, who was a great puncher but nowhere near the ring general. Like Gaby, he could also take a beating and keep coming. One of my favorite fighters of the late 80s, early 90s.
