Are we hypocrites?

Post by fightfan95 »

So we as boxing fans were complaining about not having the GGG V Canelo fight, since it has been announced, we've hardly discussed it on here or even in the media - mainly because of the whole Mayweather v McGregor circus. So have we got caught up in all of the trash talking and hype and neglected the real fight in GGG V Canelo.

We're gonna have 3 weeks to talk at length about GGG vs Canelo...I already have, and I'm sure I will some more as the fight approaches. I'm far more excited for GGG vs Canelo than May/Mac.

GGG vs Canelo for me personally is one of the most anticipated fights of this entire decade.

You are absolutly right.

Gb and k2 do a 0 job to promote this fight

And we dont talk enough about. Although the outcome is prety clear to me. Ggg by tko. C just to slow. Is going to be chased and hunted down.

Yes it's been all too easy to lose common sense and get suckered into all the hype. Especially when here in the UK it's been all over the media for months. Even BBC Boxing have been giving this far greater coverage than the GGG / Alvarez fight. Many people have also been swayed by McGregor's bullet proof self belief and swagger and expect him to win. Amongst non boxing fans he seems to be the favourite!

However as boxing fans we know this is just a big cash grab and we wont be buying into it. We're just watching the circus passing by.

The real 'big drama show' is just weeks way and will definitely not be neglected for much longer.

Ggg vs canelo is clearly the genuine boxing match, but mcgregor is such a showman it's hard to not get a bit caught up and be interested in this guy.

Canelo golovkin will still be huge. Just wait for this fight to pass

Probably, still at least it'll be over and done with in a couple of days. What about Nat vs Badou too, a good match is that

I have zero interest in May/Mac despite being a fan of both sports. Literally zero interest. It's getting a ton of publicity because it's a pop culture event, not a sporting event. I'm sure there'll be some sort of red carpet show following what Taylor Swift is wearing to her front row seats as she cheers for "Phil Mayweather to secure a pin fall victory over Cormac McCarthy from the USC."

Mayweather vs McGregor is a circus but it's also a unique, once-in-a-lifetime type of event. I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

Canelo vs GGG is 'back to business'. Tbh i'm not overly excited by it - i think GGG will make easy work of it.

More than May-Pac? AJ- Wlad?
Gosh. Fair enough.
I'm looking forward to it as well. Got managent approval for the PPV months ago :yay:
But like the OP, I can't wait for the circus to leave town and get back to real boxing match ups.
I'm also champing at the bit for the WBSS!
As a whole, it's awesome. Cruiser is the best, but who doesn't want to see Cox Groves??
Roll on the real boxing

Yes. WAY more anticipated to me than May-Pac or AJ-Wlad. May vs Pac lost a lot of interest for me after 2012, by the time it finally happened I barely cared anymore.

AJ-Wlad turned out to be a much greater fight than I had anticipated. It wasn't even all that anticipated by me before it went down because frankly I expected Joshua to win a lot easier than he did.

Yes, there is quite a bit of hypocrisy involved when boxing fans talk about the upcoming fraudulent boxing bout between Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Conor McGregor rather than a terrific bout on paper between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin. I remain astounded that the Nevada State Athletic Commission would allow someone with no boxing experience as an amateur or a professional to fight probably the best pound-for-pound professional boxer of his generation in a professional boxing bout. As a result, I will continue to feel this way regardless of the outcome in the bout tonight.

I agree with the OP. There isn't much talk surrounding the most anticipated fight of the year.

No use pretending. Triple G, may as well wear the 'S' on his chest. Everyone knows, who he is by now.

I wouldnt say hypocrites. Like most people we just got sucked into the hype. I heard people who NEVER talk about or watch boxing talking about May-Mac spectacle before AND after the match!! I ended up watching the fight with a guy who hadnt watched boxing since the Ali days, because he was drawn into the spectacle of the whole thing.

But GGG-Canelo is the fight fans' fight and regardless of how much talk there is in advance of the fight, real fight fans will be watching that with rapt attention!!
