uh oh Gervonta Davis
The talented Davis is 2 pounds over and loses his title on the scales. Is he showing serious discipline problems this early in his career? He was overweight his first two tries last fight as well.
He doesn't really seem that big for the division and I think his 5'6" listing may actually be generous.

I'm not a fan of his. He has skills, but he'd better get his head right if he wants to be successful over the long term.
Re: uh oh Gervonta Davis
Might as well move up in weight.

Yep. It's gone from inevitable to confirmed.gilgamesh wrote:Might as well move up in weight.
Pity he could not have a title defence in front of a large audience, even if his opponent is somewhat overmatched. Now it's just a beatdown.
Young guy, plenty of time to get momentum in the next weight class.
Might pay him to just get advice from Floyd and not partake in the lifestyle...

I don't think he'll do much at LW.

What did he do at 130?lookingaround87 wrote:I don't think he'll do much at LW.
He still didn't even conclusively prove he was the #2 guy there.

Re: uh oh Gervonta Davis
His win against Pedraza was impressive. He's too small for 135 though. I doubt his power will be as effective either.gilgamesh wrote:What did he do at 130?lookingaround87 wrote:I don't think he'll do much at LW.

Re: uh oh Gervonta Davis
it's 5 pounds. If he's too small for 135 he would've been too small for Berchelt or Francisco Vargas at 130.

Also, all the top dudes at 130 lbs., minus Lomachenko, are gigantic and come in as WWs.

ATG power? Based on what?Jip wrote:No. Ab is weak. Gd has atg power. And yes power is important in boxing.boxing_rocks wrote:Broner #2 in making.

Going by what he posts on instagram, he is a fuckin idiot. Thinks he's a rapper and always on about the street.

Look what happens when he connects clean. That boom.gilgamesh wrote:ATG power? Based on what?Jip wrote:No. Ab is weak. Gd has atg power. And yes power is important in boxing.boxing_rocks wrote:Broner #2 in making.

Re: uh oh Gervonta Davis
Yeah I think his size could give him significant problems at higher weights, not unlike say Gamboa at lightweightcrusader wrote:The talented Davis is 2 pounds over and loses his title on the scales. Re: uh oh Gervonta Davis
what an absolute F up this was. There's NO reason anyone should not make the weight for their fight on this card. This is going to be at least one of the most watched cards in boxing history and this kid can't show the professionalism to make the weight. disgusting.
Re: uh oh Gervonta Davis
He's young. He's gaining weight and will fight at lightweight and then higher. At least they didn't cancel the fight.
Re: uh oh Gervonta Davis
The worst possible way to avoid Lomachenko....
Re: uh oh Gervonta Davis
Let's see him knock out some great or very good fighters before we say he's got ATG power. He's a powerful, and skilled fighter. ATG power I'm not seeing. If he had that Pedraza would've been taken out a lot quicker.Jip wrote:Look what happens when he connects clean. That boom.gilgamesh wrote:ATG power? Based on what?Jip wrote:

Re: uh oh Gervonta Davis
Too many people in this thread saying he's too small for lightweight when he's the same height as Cotto.
Re: uh oh Gervonta Davis
He has atg power regardless who he beats. Garry russel doesnt need to fight a very good opponent for me to judge if he has fast hands or not. It is visible. The same goes for punching power, it is visible if somebody got good or phenomenal power. Davis got it.gilgamesh wrote:Let's see him knock out some great or very good fighters before we say he's got ATG power. He's a powerful, and skilled fighter. ATG power I'm not seeing. Re: uh oh Gervonta Davis
He certainly has power. I haven't seen anything yet to suggest he has ATG power. I'm not saying his punches are weak or anything, but there have been some PHENOMENAL punchers throughout the sports history. He's got a ways to go before he matches up with the best of them.Jip wrote:

He's not even in the biggest puncher in the division right now in his own time.
Re: uh oh Gervonta Davis
Punching power isnt much developed. You got it or you dont. Bailey didnt need to fight many opponents to convince me that his power was abnormal.gilgamesh wrote:He certainly has power. Who punches harder in his division than davis?
