Mayweather vs McGregor may be a disaster in making

Post by ace_bubble »

Hi,
I just checked ticket master and there are still tickets available for grabs.
And these are not re-sale ticket but the standard tickets.

Looks like fight may not able to sell the gate completely which is a big concern here.

Now comes the big PPV part. Given tremendous operational and marketing cost involved to put this show together it needs a humongous numbers to make this a success.

So they need people to actually pay and anything less than 1 million viewer is a big disaster, meaning it may not even be able to recoup its production costs, forget paying the guaranteed purses to the boxers.

Now can this fight which is more like an exhibition match find 1 million suckers. Looking at the non houseful show, I seems to be a big disaster in making.

Anyway this is just my opinion sitting 7 seas across. What are the view of fellow mates right where this spectacle is taking place.

You just mean the USA or across the board? What does a top PPV do in the USA?

Fight will be a massive succes.

Arena will be full. Some will get in comped but gate will still be over $70 million.

PPV numbers will soar past 3 million. Maybe 4 million.

Biggest betting fight in boxing history.

You can knock this bout as a sham, but it will be a colossal financial success.

The world is watching.

It is a sham, and hopefully, something happens to Floyd that will make him come to his senses. Like Justin Bieber getting hurt.

It has captured the attention of the sports world but could just as easily end in controversy or disaster and cause people who said after Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight that they would never pay for a fight again say "what was I thinking"?

Two weeks ago, the Mayweather-McGregor gate receipts total had surpassed $60m, which is the second biggest figure in the sports' history, only $12m behind the Mayweather-Pacquiao super-fight.

This number would have almost certainly grown significantly since that date, regardless the alleged amount of empty seats.

Why do people create threads without educating themselves on the reality of the situation? Do they prefer to possess a hateful derogatory opinion that is built upon nothing but a foundation of lazy ignorance?

Well the OP did seem to have a subtle anti-American slant to his view.

Big surprise. I think he's simply jealous that the US is producing a successful world wide spectacle, an American is going to win handily and a tough guy Irishman is headed for humiliation.

The tickets were the most expensive ever. No concerns at all there.

As for the PPV, no way it's under 2 million, much less 1. I'm thinking more like 5.5 million. As I've said all along, Boxing and MMA fans aren't the target here. General sports fans. My Mom asked me about it yesterday. She loves sports, never has asked me about a fight.

Canelo/GGG lost a ton of buyers and money because of it.

I don't care if the people that put this together lose their ass.

I don't care if fans that spend their money on it feel ripped off.

Both would be richly deserved.

5.5 million? You got starry eyes my friend.. Hope for 3-4 that's realistic, and only because a vast majority of mma fans have no idea what their watching in either sport, buy anything, and really think this is an even fight.

Starry eyes for what? I couldn't give a fornicate if they sold 0. I never cared what my favorite fighters sold. Just a prediction, far more probable than less than a million.

There will be more buys from general sports fans than MMA or Boxing fans combined. Celebrities are all over it. Ever manage to strike up a Boxing conversation at a party with someone remembering the Roy Jones/Whitaker fight or ridiculous shit like that? Those guys are all over this.

The Vegas line is 4.99 buys. Go make you some money. :TU:

It's the biggest fight since Ali/Frazier 1.

Think about it this way, Fox is doing 3 hours worth of preview and undercard fights for a PPV put on by CBS!!!!!!!

Up next on the Prelim show Yordenis Ugas vs Thomas Dulorme. 2 guys that could also easily outbox McGregor.

Its such a shame that real fighters that have worked there way up into the ratings have to sit by and watch McGregor get the payday of a lifetime. You have to put the blame squarely on the Nevada Commission for allowing it. Then to top things off they allow 8 oz gloves to be used. Money talks and the rest is all bull shit. \

It's not a shame at all, and I'm not even slightly interested in this farce being held tonight.

Income in sports is based on your ability to generate revenue. Floyd came back for this fight because McGregor will bring in revenue, likely more than any professional boxer in the world could in this same situation.

McGregor has worked his ass off for this. He's the only star big enough to generate the hype and money Floyd wants.

40 illegal streams squashed and counting. You might be unlucky on this one. Might even get a bill in the mail next week if you do find a stream.

Well whatever the OP's agenda is, it won't change the fact that the Mayweather-McGregor gate receipts have already exceeded the $70m milestone, with the $72m record still well within the realms of possibility.

Here are the numbers from the gate.
attendance was 14,623. Capacity 20,000 plus.

I feel its way way short then sellout crowd everyone was taking it for granted.

Waiting for PPV numbers.

BTW fight was not good on any absolute scale. It was just that there was so low expectations from this fight that it managed to surpass that.

Mcgregor lacked boxing skills and it was aging Floyd who could put him out only in 10th round. Against some hard hitting welter weight or light middle weight it may have been wrapped under 3.
