Nathan Cleverly Retires

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Nathan Cleverly has retired from boxing after losing his WBA light-heavyweight title to Badou Jack.

The Welsh fighter, 30, was stopped in the fifth round by his Swedish opponent on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather's win over Conor McGregor.

It was a fourth career defeat for Cleverly, who had won his WBA title with victory over Juergen Braehmer in October 2016.

"Time to say goodbye. Thank you and goodbye boxing," he wrote on Twitter.

"I've lived it and loved every second of this sport. A few too many miles on the clock."

He's only 30, but he realizes he will never be a world champion again.

Should've retired after Kovalev. His heart wasn't in the sport anymore.

Good decision. He did what he could with his gifts, skills, and team. Made some decent money too.

Agreed. Even when fought vs Braemer, he was losing by 2 points and won by lucky because Braemer got injured. Better he back to college (whom he is one of the few boxers with degree) and post graduate with a Ph.D.

Yeah, he got a little lucky with Braehmer and Braehmer is older too. I thought Cleverly would beat Jack though because I was not too impressed with Jack's performance against DeGale. Jack obviously is much better at light heavyweight.

Jack isn't very underrated I think he's done well since the kovalev fight earnt shit loads in the bellew rematch and more last night so fair play to him he's obviously still got all his faculties good to see him retire at the right time
