The gate receipts were at least $70m, with a possibility the figure could rise further still and even surpass the Mayweather-Pacquiao record of $72m.

The quantity of ticket sales is vanity - the value of those ticket sales is sanity.

Only the latter matters, since it's only cold hard cash that pays the bills! :OhYes: :TU:

They made the money, so that's OK
I was surprised there were nearly 6,000 empty seats.
Does anyone know the PPV numbers?
I would have thought we had heard them by now.
If the fight had surpassed May Pac wouldn't it be splashed across the news by now, or does it take time for that information to get calculated?

You normally have to wait for about a week for the official Showtime/Nielsen figures.

They may be able to announce ballpark figures within a few days though.

PPV numbers take a good week or so.

Thanks chaps.
It seems like a big sell, if the outage before the ringwalk is an indicator.
I hope it sold well, boxing wins if it did

That's the same thing I said. Never seen that before.

Not really sure boxing wins if there was big numbers. Floyd does, and that's probably about it.

Rob, the reason I said boxing wins is because if it made a loss ( no matter who the money goes to) it destroys investor confidence in putting together really big fights.
The fact that hopefully it was a success means other investors might be persuaded to take a punt on boxing. I hope GGG Canelo is a big success too. I would love the USA to experience the same increase of public support for boxing that the UK has been basking in for the last few years.
Money gets the top fighters in the ring together. I'm a bit jaded with single belt holders carrying on with small event shows, when all we want is the best to fight the best.

Everybody won here, the only losers were the people hoping the whole thing would be an embarrassment and a failure.

Anybody that wasn't pleasantly surprised with that fight deserved to lose their money if they expected better.

I haven't heard it called a super-fight on here?
I've heard it called a lot of other things, but not that.
The pleasent surprise is most likely that Connor appeared to win a few rounds.
If you want to see a super-fight, GGG Canelo is not that far off... It will be cheaper too!

The current gate receipt figure being quoted for the Mayweather-McGregor bout is $80m, which is a 11.11% increase on the previous record of $72m achieved by the Mayweather-Pacquiao super-fight.

End of thread - since it's utterly stupid to discuss a topic about the Mayweather-McGregor bout not selling out, when it took so much money! :TU:

I'm sure the 80 million bucks makes up for the disappointment of not selling out.
I'd rather have the place half full for 80 million. Than a sell out for 60 million
