Why risk it against an aging fighter with power?
If Lemiux wins, the sport is no better.
We already know Lemiux isn't great.
Why not fight a younger guy with less power?
If this guy beats Cotto, at least we have a new guy on the scene, with a win over Cotto.
Is Lemiux some kind of big draw?
How many more PPV buys does Lemiux bring over a young opponent at 154?
Seems like a pretty pointless fight for a guy still interested in being a diva and winning belts.

I think you guys know what I mean. Not necessarily age, but guys who haven't been given a shot at the top.punchoutsb wrote:If terrible, uninformed posts were circles of hell, you'd have just dug the tenth. Congratulations.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Why Lemieux? What a F'ing waste!

No one wants to see Lemiux versus a fighter at the top level because we know it's a loss.
If Lemiux and GGG win, then what?
If Cotto beats Lemiux, do you want to see Cotto/Canelo 2 or Cotto/GGG
It's just a nowhere match that generates the same money as a match that could lead somewhere.
If Cotto is interested in being champion and campaigning as a ranked fighter,
then I want to see someone new get a shot at a name.
Lemiux got his chance and got destroyed.
A highlight versus Curtis Stevens shouldn't warrant him another name shot.

Miguel Cotto 40 5 0
vs
Yoshihiro Kamegai 27 3 2
vacant WBO World Super Welterweight Title
Cotto defeated Kamegai

Kind of unfortunate that May vs McG was on last night otherwise i'm sure fans would be talking about how good this card was... Good undercards with 2 KTFOs and two good co main event... Vargas vs Rios is a FOTMonth contender... nice war with brutal sequences... Cotto dominate but it was a VERY fan friendly fight.
FULL CARD HIGHLIGHTS including the 2 KTFOs on the Undercard HERE:

ENJOY!!
Re: Farewell Cotto
That is exactly why I want to see Cotto vs Tyron Zeuge. It's a hail mary shot for a 168 title. He gains more for that fight than a win against lemieux.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Why Lemieux? What a F'ing waste!

Re: Farewell Cotto
Cotto versus Khan is Miguel's most likely final opponent, with a possible rematch against Canelo if he manages to defeat GGG.
I can't see David Lemieux being capable of competing in a catchweight bout, regardless the fact that he's only a short àrsè.

Barry Jones says Kamegai has the best defence in boxing as he blocks everything with his head
As limited as Kamegai is, I was still impressed with Cotto, his shot selection was class and I was sure he couldn't keep moving for the 12 rounds but he did and looked great doing it

Re: Farewell Cotto
Freddie Roach says they want the GGG-Canelo winner...that would certainly be a big fight for Cotto to go out on, and excellent risk-reward for whoever wins next month.
I believe Canelo has a rematch clause for GGG though, so it could depend on what he wants to do.

X2. I also agree with those expressing regret that this fight was on the same night as FMJ v McG.handsofstone wrote:Barry Jones says Kamegai has the best defence in boxing as he blocks everything with his head![]()

Cotto's stamina was phenomenal. It was a tough, physically grueling fight. Kamagei never stopped coming forward and throwing. It was amazing how little clinching there was given the close quarters where the fight largely took place. Cotto did get away with consistently pushing Kamegai off but the Puerto Rican's footwork was nearly flawless. He kept moving and throwing all round, every round. While the result was really never in doubt, Cotto took considerable punishment over the 12 rounds.
Cotto is at the end of the line. Probably one more good payday. I hope that he goes out without absorbing a beatdown. He has given his all to prize fighting and he needs to get out before it is too late, although it may be too late already, imo.
Re: Farewell Cotto
The thread that was started about this was widely ridiculed, you really want a 5'7" man who has never fought above 155lbs to fight a full-blown SMW in his final bout?halfamill wrote:That is exactly why I want to see Cotto vs Tyron Zeuge. Re: Farewell Cotto
I think Lemiueux would have a very good shot. In the fights I've seen him in since losing to GGG, he's looked improved in terms of boxing skills, and his power is most certainly still there.
He would be much bigger and stronger than Cotto, and I doubt Cotto's shots would keep him honest.
Think it could be a banana skin.
I'd like to see Cotto retire, he has a lot of miles on the clock, especially when you look at the beating he took from Margarito, it's amazing he was able to regroup and have some big wins, but he's also taken a lot of punishment in some of his other losses. He's outgunned and undersized at 160, his skill set keeps him in big fights, with bigger men, but at 36, is it worth it? He's from what I've heard invested his money pretty well.

Fitting end for a true bad ass. He took on anyone and everyone. Rare quality these days.

Pretty gutsy last fight if true. I agree, boxing needs more Michel Cottos. It's been a pleasure watching him all these years.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Fitting end for a true bad ass. He took on anyone and everyone. Rare quality these days.
