Mactards

Post by whiskey »

Are they worse than Pactards ?

"Connor landed more punches on Floyd than Manny did !" - he was halted by a retired 40-year shadow of his former self, a non-puncher who let him have free shots with smaller than usual gloves.

"Shut up, you'd last 30 seconds in the octagon with Connor!" - basically shouted at everyone who disagrees with Connor 'doing great' in this spectacle.

I'm pleased this 'event' drew people to boxing whom didn't really follow it, but even when anyone with a pair of eyes saw what happened - it's still raging on.

Connor earned well, had a lot of exposure and wasn't pulverised as the ref stepped in beautifully. His MMA rep is largely still intact as a result. I just think some people don't get it, they think it was real and not a money-spinner for all parties.

I think his rep did suffer. In the MMA world he's lauded as some explosive puncher with amazing power. On Saturday against the 40 year old ghost of Pretty Boy Floyd he revealed himself to have no punch power at all.

Is there anything wrong for giving McGregor some respect where it's due?

Most debutants fight 4 rounds... through 4 he was probably winning.

I was actually surprised how bad his footwork was, his technique and that he really lacked this power we hear so much about. He can't punch in boxing.

The thing I find frightening is the amount of comments about this from grown men like John Zappatos in the guardian:

'Mayweather in his prime wouldn't last 30 seconds with CM in MMA, a street fight or Death Match'

Reminds me of Ross Kemp on Exteas. Skin on skin.

The smile of Floyd's face throughout the fight was most telling.

I was surprised that he tired so quickly and how draining he found the clinches early on. I would have expected him to have the upper hand in terms of energy in the clinch, and he should have breezed through at least 5-6-7 rounds as he was getting a break every 3 minutes rather than the 5 he is used to.
After all the mouthing off about smashing through the small, old man, I expected an all out one round lunatic style attack and honestly that was probably his best bet.
The ref could have pulled him up for punching behind the head, repeatedly hammer fisting and also could have told Floyd off for turning his back.
Did anyone else have a moment of fearing the worst when Floyd doubled over and turned his back in the corner after a low blow and McGregor continued to punch whilst the ref allowed it to continue?
It must have been a little embarrassing to see a 40 year old, long retired, safety first, none puncher walking you down.
In the end it went how most people knew it would, but without the explosive attacks promised from the red corner.

I was nervous when it started. I expected him to at least try something to take Mayweather by surprise but 30 seconds in and it was obvious he was trying to box Floyd I knew it was over and just a matter of time.

I really did think we'd see some mad first round. Should have sprinted at him screaming.

Sour boxing fans are the worst surely. Their legend could not handle a novice so of course its a conspiracy.

Before posting such a load of tosh first you must understand boxing,in doing this you will then understand that mayweather was allowing big bad mcgregor to have his little bit of "success" with his hammer fisting andillegal blows plus turning mayweather and hitting him while floyd has his back to him, this is boxing bit mma and defo not ufc. Little old Floyd could of put it on this monster from the ufc called conner or cannot from the first bell and cannot wouldnt of seen the 5th rnd.

Floyd probably had a flunky ready to bet 'in play' after 2 rounds.

As soon as he put his foot down it was game over.

Connor has no engine and no power.

As some who used to care about MMA much more in the past than I currently do. Conor and Mayweather was inevitable at some stage to answer the question what happens if one of the best MMA fighters fought a boxer.

In relation to rounds, we got our answer in regards to Conor gassing: Conor is used to fighting the for the very most 25 minutes (he has only gone that distance once recently). Frampton even tweeted about 12 three minute rounds. Why was Conor's movement so bad? He is used to fighting in bare feet, big difference right there.

This will not be the end of the argument and wont be the last fight involving a high profile MMA fighter and a boxer. That said, we saw that round length and footwear are key factors.

Mayweather only throws about 6 punches a round anyway....

And it's hard to penalise Mac for landing cleannpunches on the most slippery champ ever.

Macgregor deserves plenty of credit for his performance, I think he did way over most serious boxing fans' expectations. Certainly mine.

Still think mayweather at least carried him from the 3rd round onwards. Also think he purposely didnt put anything into it for the first 3. Go back and watch the fight again i swear mayweather was aiming to miss. Hes the most accurate puncher theres been for years...mcgregor with his hands down totally gassed...with no defence no power to threaten mayweather with and mayweather was missing. He was keeping him in there.

Think it was the sixth round conor fouled floyd...punches from behind to the back of the head. Thats when mayweathers accuracy shot up. He was punishing him for fouling.

The gulf between the two was vast. Mcgregor aquitted himself pretty well in the first 3. But he punched himself out. He had to put everything into it to stay competetive and that was floyd not really trying...just making him work.

Hardest part of floyds night was making it seem competetive in any way. Hes was duping people ever since the fight was made.

No disrespect to conor...just totally different games. Another con job from mayweather tbh.

Iistening too it on BBC, it sounded like it was 50/50 but now I've seen it you can see Mayweather really carried him, people are saying all sorts of crazy shit like "he hit him with more punches than anyone since De la Hoya etc, but that was because he let him, he had no power in his punches. Floyd had zero respect for him in there.
