Wake The Heck Up People...Floyd Carried Conor! Enough
Look at all of these Pro Conor posts kissing him on his can for his performance in the fight. It amazes me how so many people can watch this fight and not see how much Floyd carried Conor from the opening bell in an effort to make it entertaining and worthwhile for PPV buyers. Floyd barely threw a punch in the first two rounds in an effort to give Conor fans some thrills and reasons to believe. He wanted to convince even the other fans that he's too old and made a bad decision taking this fight. 99% of you all took the bait and you and your drunk buddies started yelling at the TV all excited for the biggest upset in history you thought you were witnessing. Congratulations, Floyd got you again.
Not this guy. It was obvious to me what Floyd was doing and after the first minute of the fight, I knew Floyd could get him out of there any time he wanted. As much as I hate Floyd, he's not only a genius but he's just masterful in the art of boxing...plain and simple. When a 40 year old boxer can get in there with a tough 29 year old SOB like Conor and toy with him so easily that he can create and dictate the narrative of the fight like this, he's got to be a genius. Had Floyd opted to KO him early, the fan reaction around the world would be merciless. Floyd let Conor have his moments and waited until he felt that the fans had enough entertainment and he made it so that both guys won in fans eyes. Genius. How you all can't see that concerns me...wake up!

Floyd was smart, he guaranteed the KO by getting Conor to wear himself down, Floyd always been a patient fighter, he proved he's tough also. It's not as easy to snap your fingers and get a KO even against a boxing novice. Conor was huge, hes a fighter, tough...in certain areas, perhaps not endurance tough though. And conor went negative and had enough skill to backpeddle and use keep away punches with his reach. Thats why we admire the KO artist so much because its not an easy thing to cold clock a boxer who's used to fighting.

This seems to be a monumental occasion, as it seems we both finally agree on a subject matter, which I’ve already previously expressed precisely the same comments on!caldo2025 wrote:Wake The Heck Up People...Floyd Carried Conor! Enough

I actually wholeheartedly believe that you’re 100% correct about this!
Well done!
Re: Wake The Heck Up People...Floyd Carried Conor! Enough
I agree that Floyd wanted to extend the fight, but he did primarily because of strategy and not for people to get their money's worth. Conor said he would knock Floyd out inside of two rounds. If that happened, Conor's fans would have been happy and Floyd's haters would have been happy. Floyd knew that Conor tired after fighting for 25 minutes which is 5 five minute rounds in MMA. Floyd's game plan was to wait until Conor tired before he made his move to try to end the fight. If Conor had more stamina, Floyd would have been even more cautious.

For sure, Floyd adopted the ‘rope-a-dope’ tactics early in the bout, because: McGregor couldn’t hurt him; he wanted to wear out his novice foe; and he also wanted to formulate a suitable strategy.RScarf1 wrote:I agree that Floyd wanted to extend the fight, but he did primarily because of strategy and not for people to get their money's worth. From the fourth round onwards, Floyd treated Conor’s punches with utter contempt. The Irishman simply couldn’t hurt him. This allowed Mayweather Jr. to adopt the highly-unusual aggressive ‘stalk-‘til-they-can’t-walk’ approach, as he walked down his inexperienced foe with consummate ease.
I felt that Money May could have raised the game at any point from the fifth round onwards and closed the show whenever he wanted.
In fact, had Floyd went on the offensive early, he probably would have been easily capable of winning a toe-to-toe slugfest within two rounds. However, if this would have been the actual outcome of the bout, he would have been aggressively lambasted for conning the fans by selling them a mismatch.
Mayweather Jr. received a lot of criticism from the fans for the one-sided tedious nature of the Pacquiao bout, so he remained patient and extended the show to please the fans and to gain some measure of redemption, allowing himself to retire on a high-note.
Re: Wake The Heck Up People...Floyd Carried Conor! Enough
Floyd tried to go toe to toe numerous times after the first 3, Conor wouldn't allow it, he backpeddled constantly. Maybe Floyd could of ramped it up more but its not as easy as clicking your fingers to KO someone especially if they are on their bike.Enlightened-One wrote:For sure, Floyd adopted the ‘rope-a-dope’ tactics early in the bout, because: McGregor couldn’t hurt him; he wanted to wear out his novice foe; and he also wanted to formulate a suitable strategy.RScarf1 wrote:I agree that Floyd wanted to extend the fight, but he did primarily because of strategy and not for people to get their money's worth. Agreed, but it seemed to me that Floyd remained in cruise control mode for the vast majority of the bout and it was only until the start of the ninth round that he bothered to leave first gear.lazboy wrote:Floyd tried to go toe to toe numerous times after the first 3, Conor wouldn't allow it, he backpeddled constantly. Of course, a fighter that is willing to do anything to survive is really awkward to stop, but had Floyd raised the tempo several rounds earlier, the stoppage would have occurred much sooner.

Yes, Floyd walked onto counter uppercuts and jabs for 3 rounds on purpose.
Floyd Mayweather. One of the most defensive, risk-averse pussies ever to climb between the the ropes. Ate punches because now, all of a sudden, the fans deserve it.
Carried my ass - he's just overrated to fornicate by a delusional fan base who think he can do no wrong, ever since he moved up to Welterweight he's shown an incredible lack of will to engage in a boxing match, yet it goes down like: "Wow look how Floyd got on his bike for 3 minutes, his ability to shell up and turn his back really impressed me, 10-9 Floyd". That's now manifested itself into a delusion he was handled by a novice for 3 rounds on purpose.

I agree that FMJ could have taken McG out from the fifth on, and it is likely that he would have won a firefight in the first couple of rounds, especially if Conor had succeeded in buzzing him. But that is more risk than FMJ is willing to take.
It was a glorified sparring exhibition, but the vast majority of FMJ's professional "fights" have been the same. He gets to retire with a stoppage and a massive payday.
If I had purchased the ppv I would have received value for my money. It was a very interesting sparring exhibition.

Btw, notice how FMJ decided to turn it up after the low blow that byrd did not call, allowing McG to get him in the corner. Earlier in the fight when McG landed an obvious low blow and Byrd did not warn him, FMJ dug a direct hit below the belt, sending a clear message.
McG failed to get FMJ off his game.

Floyd had to kinda "let" Zab win 3 out of the first 4 rounds.
That version of Zab, when properly focused, was an ATG 4 round fighter.
However, Floyd showed in the 3rd that he could compete with that Zab.
But he showed in the 4th that it wasn't smart to.
That being said, besides that 1 fight, I don't remember Floyd giving guys early rounds. Ever.
Floyd was not really fighting.

Floyd did not carry Conor. He was being cautious and waited for him to tire which was after 8 rounds. That was his game plan. It was strategy, not carrying.

I agree Floyd carried mcgregor
I'm a mcgregor fan but it's quite clear imo

I tend to agree. The truth is somewhere in the middle. He took his time, waited for him to tire.
Maybe he could have stopped him in 3 or 5 rounds, but he didn't have to. Going all out early is risky business. When you get older it takes your body longer to warm up.
Maybe it was a tad of a carry (10%) but it was more biding his time.
Re: Wake The Heck Up People...Floyd Carried Conor! Enough
Stevie Wonder just posted that he thought Floyd carried him too. It was that obvious. This fight was as well orchestrated as a movie or a play and the playwright was Floyd. He knew after testing Conor's power that it was childs play and that he could do whatever he wanted.lazboy wrote:Floyd was smart, he guaranteed the KO by getting Conor to wear himself down, Floyd always been a patient fighter, he proved he's tough also. With that type of knowledge though, he could have done the wrong thing and blown the doors off of Conor in 2 rounds. That would make him hated around the world. Instead he was brilliant..he let Conor have some moments and make it appear way tougher than it was. Imagine being THAT great that you could do something like that on that stage against a bigger man? crazy. I hate Floyd but he's amazing.
Re: Wake The Heck Up People...Floyd Carried Conor! Enough
You guys are funny. Floyd was far from cautious in this fight. Look at the punch totals in the first 3 rounds and tell me if Floyd was even trying. He kept ushering Conor on to make the fight look closer and inspire fans to thinking that he had a chance. This fight ended up being considered "entertaining" because Floyd let Conor have his shots and kept his hands in his pockets. The fight is widely considered a success and fun now because of the way Floyd carried Conor. ObviousTony1244 wrote:RScarf1 wrote:Floyd did not carry Conor. Most people in the know believed that Floyd would carry McGregor & it's no surprise that he did.
The whole thing was just WWE & McGregor clearly did not belong in the ring with Mayweather.

You give Mayweather too much credibility, you're kissing him on his can. Mayweather barely threw anything because he wanted Mcgregor to tire out. It's called strategy. He couldn't take Mcgregor out whenever he wanted Mcgregor had to be exhausted first.
Re: Wake The Heck Up People...Floyd Carried Conor! Enough
Great comment with the WWE because that's exactly what this was in reality. It was a typical WWE type storyline and the action was identical what a WWE main event match would look like. Even halfway through the fight when the bell rang and Floyd pushed Conor in the back as he was going into the corner. That was so obviously not natural for Floyd, all acting.Syntax Error wrote:Most people in the know believed that Floyd would carry McGregor & it's no surprise that he did.

Re: Wake The Heck Up People...Floyd Carried Conor! Enough
Floyd could make ME look good if we fought this Saturday night in Vegas too. Don't be naive man. Use your head. Floyd even tricked Conor into thinking that he did better than he thought he would in the fight by Conor's reaction post fight. If I'm Conor, Floyd became my best friend ever. Not only did he make him rich beyond his dreams but he let Conor walk out of the ring with the same or more juice than he had walking into it. Floyd could have made Conor an absolute joke and ruined the rest of his career but he didn't. It was a classy move by a classless guy.FastestHandsInThewest wrote:You give Mayweather too much credibility, you're kissing him on his can. It’s disappointing to see that people are allowing their blind hatred of Mayweather Jr. to compel them claim that he was physically incapable of forcing an earlier stoppage of Conor McGregor… and that he had to wait for the Irishman to become exhausted before looking for the KO.
This claim appears to not only contradict the events that unfolded before my eyes, but it also conflicts with the commonly-held opinions expressed by the seeming majority of sports pundits and fellow pro fighters that watched the bout.

It is possible that Mayweather could have knocked McGregor out early, but he did not want to take that risk. That is why he kept to his cautious strategy. If you want to call that carrying, then fine, but I call it strategy in this case.
Re: Wake The Heck Up People...Floyd Carried Conor! Enough
Dunno if he carried him as he was caught a few times but it was certainly a strange fight. At the time of watching the whole thing just had a hollow feel to it. I enjoyed the build up even though I new what the outcome would be but the fight itself was a strange one. Glad it's over tbh.
