Re: Oliver McCall v. Earnie Shavers
Same.I think McCall can knock him out.
Re: Oliver McCall v. Earnie Shavers
I don't know if he knocks him out or takes a decision, but basically it just comes down to I think McCall can take Shavers' best shot and Shaver's won't be able to take McCall's best. Especially in the later rounds when he's exhausted himself gunning for the KO.
Re: Oliver McCall v. Earnie Shavers
Hardest heavyweight puncher vs best heavyweight chin. These cancel each other out, and the higher workrate wins, ergo, McCall.

?? McCall's workrate always sucked. Shavers by decision (but survives a few late scares).SamWise72 wrote:Hardest heavyweight puncher vs best heavyweight chin. These cancel each other out, and the higher workrate wins, ergo, McCall.
Also McCall had a great chin but wasn't superman. He could be put into a shell. Bruno definitely shook him badly and Lewis basically uppercutted him into a nervous breakdown. I don't see Oliver just walking through Shavers hooks and right hands and begging for more. He'll fight more cautious and let himself get outworked.

Re: Oliver McCall v. Earnie Shavers
Shavers hardest heavyweight puncher)))))?I think Tyson,Foreman hit harder than Shavers and knocking out more proven guys than he.And i think.Smokie Joe hit harder than Shavers).
Re: Oliver McCall v. Earnie Shavers
In this case McCall would have to be wary of incoming. I think it takes him off his game......well..... when/if he had a game at the time. INCONSISTENT.
I favor Earnie in a sloppy fight where Shavers hits paydirt, and Mcall either succumbs physically, or does something wacky and melts his way to a loss.

Re: Oliver McCall v. Earnie Shavers
McCall W-KO1 or W-KO2. Shavers doesn't have the defense or the chin to avoid getting tagged cleanly any longer than that.
Re: Oliver McCall v. Earnie Shavers
I doubt very much McCall is good enough to beat Shavers until he's exhausted. Shavers isn't the greatest technician by any means, but he's at least evenly matched with McCall as far as technical skill goes. I just think McCall wins the battle of toughness and that would win him the fight.Senya13 wrote:McCall W-KO1 or W-KO2. Re: Oliver McCall v. Earnie Shavers
People who faced both Shavers and each of those fighters disagree. I agree that Tyson in particular was even more effective in separating people from their senses, but I think that was as much to do with his extraordinary speed and aggression as his power. Foreman is a much better comparison.Vladimir5555 wrote:Shavers hardest heavyweight puncher)))))?I think Tyson,Foreman hit harder than Shavers and knocking out more proven guys than he.And i think.Smokie Joe hit harder than Shavers).
Re: Oliver McCall v. Earnie Shavers
From all the film of Shavers I've seen he was much easier to hit than McCall. And McCall hit hard enough to hurt Shavers, and would finish him quickly.
Re: Oliver McCall v. Earnie Shavers
Shavers, razor thin verdict. He would have just enough juice to pull it off.
Re: Oliver McCall v. Earnie Shavers
McCall. In a fight between a puncher and a brick wall the brick wall will always win.

Unless he is crazy.

Shavers wins because of the two knock downs he scored in round 2 split dec
Re: Oliver McCall v. Earnie Shavers
Tough call but I'd favour Shavers. McCall is extremely overrated on this forum, but he was a tough guy with a granite chin. The problem with McCall was that he often fought like a sparring partner, lazy and without the required ambition. I think Shavers would sweep the first half of the fight and survive the last few rounds to get the UD. If Bruno could pull it off, why not Shavers?

Re: Oliver McCall v. Earnie Shavers
McCall is not overrated here. He was a quality heavyweight. Not great but certainly talented enough to overcome Shavers, who IS an overrated heavy, at least in terms of his skill.
Sure Shavers could bomb, but he wouldn't land too many clean shots on McCall's very sturdy chin. And if he did, I'm certain that McCall would survive them.
Unless he has an emotional breakdown in the ring, McCall takes a one-sided decision over the Acorn. Maybe stops him late.
