McGregor has a punchers chance if he assumes an extremely unorthodox style and basically gets lucky.

How exactly was he better? He was losing the fight until Haye's leg went out. Don't get me wrong I was damn glad that was the case because I absolutely hate David Haye, and it was awesome seeing him lose, but considering he was winning prior to being a one legged guy I don't think there's any real indication that Bellew "was" better.asdfjkl wrote: I predicted Daffy would win, even though I knew Bellew was better.
Daffy Duck actually rules. David Haye sucks. David Haye is unworthy of the title "Daffy Duck"

I cant stand haye, certainly his late incarnation, but hes achieved way more than bellew could dream of, and in his prime would havr flattened bellew without breaking a sweat.gilgamesh wrote:How exactly was he better? I dislike Haye enough that I can't give him credit for maybe's. I prefer to imagine a world in which he'd always be a one legged punching bag for Bellew to beat upjamesmcdonnell wrote:I cant stand haye, certainly his late incarnation, but hes achieved way more than bellew could dream of, and in his prime would havr flattened bellew without breaking a sweat.gilgamesh wrote:How exactly was he better? McGregors best chance will come in the first round. That's the only time he'll get to fight his kind of fight. Floyd will catch him early and carry him til the 6th or 7th round.

What about no, not at all, Bellew won the first 3 or 4 rounds and actually kept him alive when injured.gilgamesh wrote:I dislike Haye enough that I can't give him credit for maybe's. God hpw tedious.

What a load of 5hit,bellew would not of won that fight if hayes leg hadnt of given out and if they have a rematch you will see who is the better of the twoasdfjkl wrote:I predicted Daffy would win, even though I knew Bellew was better.BitPlayer wrote:Lol, I actually predicted Bellew would win, even though I didn't believe it myself.Boxerbeetle wrote:After Bellew upset Haye, I vowed to always predict the underdog would win, as no-one remembers bad predictions but you can pretend to be some sort of guru if one ever comes off.

Re: Who thinks Mcgregor will win.
I gotta give mcgregor credit for moving over to boxing and having a go,dana white has always tried to dis boxing in comparison to the ufc,he even gave james toney a chance to come over in a publicity stunt to try and prove his thoughts that ufc is better than boxing but mcgregor decides to go the other way and not just have a boxing match but have a boxing match against the best defensive fighter probably of all time. Two different sports and it would take years for a fighter to master one then master the other but connor gave it a go and jumped in at the top(id of jumped in at the top for the purse he got) well done

I don't think David Haye would dare to accept his own rules lol, but I hope he does the impossible, and proves me wrong.thechump wrote:What a load of 5hit,bellew would not of won that fight if hayes leg hadnt of given out and if they have a rematch you will see who is the better of the twoasdfjkl wrote:I predicted Daffy would win, even though I knew Bellew was better.BitPlayer wrote: Lol, I actually predicted Bellew would win, even though I didn't believe it myself.

I don't think it necessarily follows that predicting an underdog successfully proves you know a lot about a certain sport.Boxerbeetle wrote:After Bellew upset Haye, I vowed to always predict the underdog would win, as no-one remembers bad predictions but you can pretend to be some sort of guru if one ever comes off.

Example, in Haye vs Bellew, Haye hurt his hamstring. We'll never know if Haye would've won otherwise, of course. But nobody predicted Bellew because they thought Haye was going to injure himself part way through the fight. It would've been a lucky prediction, rather than one that demonstrated knowledge.

Re: Who thinks Mcgregor will win.
I am a huge fan of McGregor but you are incorrect to say that he destroyed Diaz in the second fight. It simply didnt happen how youve described and the fact there is a clamour for the rubber match tells as much.SAPFO wrote:To be fair to Conor, in MMA he's adapted well to his main loss. He destroyed Nate Diaz in the 2nd fight. He admitted in the first fight he got the weight gain wrong, (going from Champ at 145, to fight a top 175) gassed, and then panicked. He really did put it all to bed though in the 2nd fight.
He's not a bum by ay means, and he'll be as fit any else fighter. This myth he'll gas is borne from 1 fight where he jumped 30lbs to fight a top fighter in that weightclass. This fight will be less taxing on his cardio system than an MMA fight.
I deluded myself that McGregor had a shot against Mayweather with his supposed unorthodox style and punching power but i think his arm punch style from round 3 onwards was embarrasing. I didnt rate the performace and Mayweather clearly held back. Huge props to McGregor for being brave and taking the challenge but that is where the praise really should end.
More worryingly, for the first time post fight he has acknowdledegd that he has a stamina problem. That will spell pure danger against a true stong 155 lbs wrestling beast like Khabib.
Diaz and McGregor may have fought at 170 lbs but Diaz is actually a 155'er and not some enormous and unbeatable beast. He has been well beaten on several occassions at 155 and dealt with far easier than McGregor could just about manage in their second fight.
Pump out as many stats as you want but stats dont always reveal the true picture (ala lies, damn lies and statistics). Tell me this, if McGregor legitimately dropped Diaz then presumably Diaz was dazed or disorientated? Why then did McGregor not proceed to jump on top and ground and pound to a finish? After each knockdown Diaz was up nearly straightaway after McGregor refused to engage in the ground game. Are you sure Diaz wasnt simply going down in an effort to ju jitsu McGregor on the mat...

McGregor and Mayweather both won! Boxing lost!

I meant Achilles, not the hamstring.
Re: Who thinks Mcgregor will win.
It was a 'challenge' that even if he lost, he'd make millions of dollars. Much more than he'd make in the UFC for one fight. Probably more than he'd make for several fights combined. Even if he got embarrassed, he's probably now set for life financially.liamlion wrote:I deluded myself that McGregor had a shot against Mayweather with his supposed unorthodox style and punching power but i think his arm punch style from round 3 onwards was embarrasing. I think MMA lost more. From a boxing POV this will be forgotten about almost immediately - the only long-term reference to this fight will be about PPV figures (until they are inevitably broken by a future super fight) and the 'yes, but...' when discussing Floyd's fiftieth win on a 50-0 CV.Stuarty30 wrote:McGregor and Mayweather both won! MMA will have to accept that athletes at the very peak of that sport can still, to this day, earn vastly superior sums of money by entering into novelty boxing matches than they can at elite level MMA. McGregor Diaz III should be a trilogy finale of an absolutely thrilling MMA contest, but sadly for that sport McGregor will have a St Patrick's Day NYC boxing match against Paulie Malignaggi if it makes him more money, which in reality it almost certainly will. For the PPV figures McGregor can shift he has every right to moan about his paydays. Floyd picked up more than twice as much for the Berto fight than McGregor did for fighting Aldo and the latter did about twice as much business.
Imagine how much more money McGregor would have in the bank if he could self-promote like Floyd?

Did anyone that has even a modicum of knowledge about boxing seriously think that McGregor had even the slightest chance against Mayweather?

Re: Who thinks Mcgregor will win.
No. But it was sold as an unknown prospect. McGregor wasn't a guy off the streets and knocking together a highlight real of his supposed power made it a fairly easy sell.Syntax Error wrote:Did anyone that has even a modicum of knowledge about boxing seriously think that McGregor had even the slightest chance against Mayweather?![]()
The eventuality was not that Mayweather would have to negate his supposed unreal power; more that his power was laughably overrated and Mayweather was literally laughing at him.
Re: Who thinks Mcgregor will win.
Don't think so. It was all casuals who I heard talking nonsense about McGregor winning.Syntax Error wrote:Did anyone that has even a modicum of knowledge about boxing seriously think that McGregor had even the slightest chance against Mayweather?![]()

Re: Who thinks Mcgregor will win.
Some of the comments I've heard from people regarding McGregor are embarrassing. "He might have lost but early on he was winning" That's the equivalent of the fat kid leading the first 10 metres of the 100m on sports day. He got his arse handed to him by a 40 year old semi-retired boxer who I suspect didn't train anywhere near as intensively as he had when he was fighting people like DLH and Corrales.
