Past or present? I met boxers when they were active and ranked, but now they are retired or not world-class anymore.

I knew David Estrada when he was a welterweight contender because he taught classes at a boxing gym I was a member of. He was a nice guy. He trained hard. I felt that he focused too much on power instead of speed. When he was faster with his hands, he was at his best. He still fights, but I don't think he can ever become a contender again. I met Robert Daniels at the same gym and he was also teaching classes, but the gym was under new ownership. Daniels is very religious, Christian I think. He talked about God and he wants to be a good person so he will be accepted into heaven. He tried to make a comeback because he wanted to be a cruiserweight champion again, but he's 48 years old, so his fight was cancelled due to him not passing the medical test. I knew other boxers too. Everyone was willing to be interviewed. Boxing is one of the few sports that you can train with or be taught by world-class athletes. Except for one female boxer who is a psycho bitch, everyone was nice.

I helped give her publicity when she was active, but she was ungrateful. She would sometimes blame me if she lost even though I had nothing to do with her losing. She is a narcissist and only cares about herself and what she can get for free from people. Now that she's older in her 40s and has been inactive for a few years, she is not in the limelight and I know that she misses that, but her time as a champion and contender is over.

What do you mean by know? I've met and spoken on the phone with too many to count. Social interaction is a different story.

The best boxer I've known is Manny Sobral, who was a Canadian Olympian and 24-2 as a pro, with his most notable opponent being Mikkel Kessler.

Top man who has done a lot for boxing in my area

My best friend was 6-0, Adam Bloom. He was born for MMA but was born too early. Great Wrestler, he took up Boxing very late. Lost to Tony Thompson in a regional amateur final.

I know Rahman enough that he would recognize me. Very funny. The rest were just blog or fan shit.

I also met Chuck Wepner. The Rocky Balboa character was based on him. A movie about Wepner was made about a year ago. If you've seen videos of his interviews, that's what he is like.

I don't know any in terms of "let's hang out, bruh" but I've spoken with Frans Botha a few times, Andrew Golota once. They both seemed nice enough.

I knew Joshua Clottey and Joseph Agbeko in their prime years as we all trained in the same gym (Bronx, NY), my brother was a main sparring partner for Agbeko when he upset Darchinyan! And recently I shared a coach with Argenis Mendez, however he split with my coach after the Campbell defeat, all great and humble champions, great to have met and gained knowledge from them! Sparring Mendez was especially beyond difficult mentally

I was at the Agbeko vs. Darchinyan fight. Your brother must have prepared him well.

It is enough if he (top level boxer) knows your name / able to recognize you......

I'm good pals with Colin 'peely' McNeil. He was a top class amateur who had a British level pro career. Top guy. Still in great shape. My best pal and training partner went 5-0 as a pro but against journeymen. He was sickened by crooked management. My company also sponsors a young, unbeaten prospect, Kieran Smith. He could go all the way. Very tough, skilled and dedicated.

I've known Scott Quigg for years. Mainly through his dad and uncle who follow Bury FC home and away (like myself). Scott's a grounded, nice lad, nothing like his brother Kenny who is a complete head the ball

I don’t hold any close personal friendships with any top level boxers, so I can’t really say that I truly “know” them.

However, I do occasionally chat and say “hello” to several retired or current (vaguely) world-rated fighters, but I can’t really say who they are, because you probably won’t be impressed anyway and I'm not sure if I should.

I looked him up. How did he die? I'm also trying to figure out how HW Monte Masters died, so far to no avail.

Didn't Bloom fight for Jake Smith at Baltimore boxing club in Fells Point?
