He has to finish him.

You sure you didn't misread that? All Canelo has to do to beat Golovkin is win 4 rounds.FastestHandsInThewest wrote:He has to finish him.

GGG needs to either win by KO or in such a convincing decision that it can't possibly be taken away. Like at least 9 rounds to 3 with 2 knockdowns or so thrown in for good measure.

Why would they though, Canelo isn't Mayweather, what gives him that sort of authority?gilgamesh wrote:If it's even remotely close. YesFastestHandsInThewest wrote:

Boxing always has a cash cow. When one goes, a new one arrives. The cash cow usually has to be beaten far beyond clearly to actually be beaten. There are weird exceptions to the rule though...Bradley vs Pac 1 for instance.FastestHandsInThewest wrote:

You make a fair point, I guess you can be right in your statement but for boxing's sake I hope you're wrong. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case as boxing like all other sports have been corrupt to some degree.gilgamesh wrote:Boxing always has a cash cow. When one goes, a new one arrives. I hope I'm wrong too. It's always preferable to see everything conducted controversy free.

Canelo isn't Mayweather in talent or drawing power, but he still got a draw against Floyd on one card when he arguably lost every round.FastestHandsInThewest wrote:You make a fair point, I guess you can be right in your statement but for boxing's sake I hope you're wrong. Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
GingerHead needs to do a combo version of Kamegai v Cotto, only smarter. He has no chance standing at range. He will eat 3G's stiff jab all night and get chopped down at the ropes.
3G is uncomfortable fighting going backwards and he has shown some vulnerability to the body. GingerHead needs to pressure him a la Ward. He needs to get into his chest, attack the body, and tie him up. 3G wants to trade. GingerHead needs to frustrate him by constantly pushing him back, grappling and pounding the body.
When not pushing forward he needs to get on his bike and ride, keeping 3G chasing and getting him off balance. Then jump in and grind somemore.
I question GingerHead's ability to accomplish this. I also question whether he has the stamina to grind it out v 3G. However, if he can do it for the first half, he may be able to weaken the much older 3G enough to get it to the salvation of the judges.

yeah, Canelo is not so much of a chin-to-the-chest physical-type brawler, despite his squat physique and good chin lending themselves to that style.Tanzio wrote:GingerHead needs to do a combo version of Kamegai v Cotto, only smarter. He's a much bigger cash cow than 35 year old Golovkin.FastestHandsInThewest wrote:Why would they though, Canelo isn't Mayweather, what gives him that sort of authority?gilgamesh wrote:If it's even remotely close. YesFastestHandsInThewest wrote:![]()

Barring an injury, GGG stops Canelo. Unfortunately, at this age injury is a possibility one can't discount.
Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
Canelo could be find favor with the judges; he's had a couple of close ones in the past such as Trout and Lara yet came away with W's - and even grabbed a draw on that CJ Ross card for Floyd.
Golovkin also got the rub of the green in many people's eyes for the Jacob's bout.
Watching some open-work out sessions (i know it's not much to go by) but Canelo certainly looked much sharper imo, whipped his punches with much faster hands - he really seems to be finding his prime. Perhaps he can make this a competitive boxing match. Going the distance would be quite something though... given the punching power in the ring; perhaps 2 of the top 5 p4p power-punchers in boxing.
What's interesting to me will be: which guy takes up the front foot?
Has anyone ever seen Canelo or Golovkin give up the front foot? I can't remember either taking a backward step.
But that's not to say the fighter that swallows his pride and boxes on his bike, will necessarily be the loser - I was fascinated by the same aspect in Matthysse vs Provodnikov. Matthysse was the guy who swallowed his pride, he found himself in there with someone who was harder than he was - but he won comprehensively by UD.
I think there's a chance Canelo will end up on his bike, trying to find spots in rounds to counter then move; his problem could be that his feet aren't nearly as quick as his hands.

That's not the point if he can or can't. You asked why would they rob GGG. That is the answer.FastestHandsInThewest wrote:I don't think it matters GGG just might take his lights out.IKSRTFO wrote:He's a much bigger cash cow than 35 year old Golovkin.FastestHandsInThewest wrote:

Don't forget pounding the balls. Seriously speaking, do you really think that Canelo can change his style so drastically and be successful?Tanzio wrote:GingerHead needs to pressure him a la Ward. Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
I'm pretty sure canelo will take the boxer role on his back foot he is mainly a counter puncher but as you say he hasn't got quick feet .I can see canelo going to the ropes and trying to counter Golovkin ,it will either make him a genius or KOdRicky_ wrote:Canelo could be find favor with the judges; he's had a couple of close ones in the past such as Trout and Lara yet came away with W's - and even grabbed a draw on that CJ Ross card for Floyd.

Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
I'm going back and forth on this one. Its not a surefire knockout for GGG like I thought it was before, leaning now towards a come from behind late stoppage for G. He's going to have to earn it, I think Canelo is going after the body viciously. Still don't think Canelo can handle 12 rounds of GGG pressure. But if GGG jab isn't working, its gonna be much harder.
Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
I sincerely hope GGG takes Canelo out or at least wins convincingly. I do think though that his style is the kind that Canelo does well against. I hope GGG has his jab working and doesn't just try to out slug Canelo. Canelo can be dangerous with his counters and uppercuts. When Canelo rests on the ropes, GGG needs to take advantage. GGG's under-rated boxing skills and footwork will get him in the position to win, but standing and slugging "mexican style" won't, imo.
Both will be prepared well, and one thing we can count on, someone will probably be yelling robbery when it is done. Both have chins that will allow it to go the distance, I'm afraid.

Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
GGG is going to lose this fight for the same reason why he almost lost to Jacobs. Respect. Respect is what turns GGG from destroyer to a tentative fighter. You can already tell by the pre-fight interviews how much respect he's already giving Canelo and how this will be his "toughest test to date". GGG did the same thing midway through his fight with Jacobs and became cautious and reactionary and the style does not suit him at all. Once Jacobs turned southpaw, it confused GGG and his offense was stifled and he had a hard time igniting again.
In my opinion, if GGG came at Canelo like he has with Geale or Stevens and threw all respect out the window, he clearly gets the KO and ends the fight midway. He'll take some shots like he did against Brook but it was all cosmetic. My guess is that GGG tries to fight a safe, cautious, technical fight and that's right into Canelo's hands and the judges as well. Those Vegas judges and their love for Canelo scares the daylights out of me.

Re: How does Canelo beat Golovkin?
Such a stupid turn by caldo. Golovkin is always very respectful to his opponents in his interviews before fights. He also respects opponents' power in the ring. He fought "safe" against Lemieux and completely shut him off. GGG has a superior jab and against a fighter with a shorter reach, that advantage doubles.caldo2025 wrote:GGG is going to lose this fight for the same reason why he almost lost to Jacobs. Respect.
