So if 6.5 is the real number
So if 6.5 is the real number
What would fantasy fights (all boxers in prime & in todays time) make? Ff & my estimation.
Ali vs Tyson. 30 mill
Robinson vs Canelo. 8 mill
Hoya vs Leonard. 12 mill
Pacquiao vs Chavez. 4 mill

Re: So if 6.5 is the real number
I figure 6.5 Million is as good as a fight could do pretty much. Very seldom you have that unusual mix that draws in fight fans, and people that don't give a sh*t about combat sports at the same time.
It takes more than just the talent of the two fighters to sell an event like this. You need a little P.T. Barnum to go along with it.

Floyd already fought the #1 mma icon of all time so why not the #1 of pro wrestling icon, The Rock. Sell the 80-100 lb difference. Make it seem like Floyd is washed up. Mention Th Rock's boxing past. Add the roody-poo trash talk. The boxing commission approves it and the public eats it up.

Re: So if 6.5 is the real number
i think around 10m would be the absolute
peak today. i could imagine that several
historic fights could have come close to
that:
johnson - jeffries
louis - schmeling
ali - foreman
leonard - hagler

The build up would be great. Rocks trash talking skills are on another league! Casuals will buy anything, if just 2 famous persons are involved, stupidity. It's just a different time, Ali probably had 40 million viewers for fights.

Typical, Floyd is a part of something amazing ...
Let's undermine it by creating fictions, not even realistic scenarios to compare it to.
Ali/Tyson
How about God VS Baal?
The top 4 PPV events in combat sport HISTORY belong to Floyd.
The people who hate Floyd have a stronger internet/media presence ...
but there is a HUGE following that adores the guy and are willing to give him $
Hopkins (and anyone without a dick for a brain) said that it's all abo ut promotion.
ANY great fighter can be sold.

Conor McGregor's improbable challenge of Floyd Mayweather was a box-office smash.
The fight reached between 4 million and 5 million pay-per-view sales with an estimated 50 million people watching in the United States alone.
According to preliminary numbers by Showtime PPV, the fight threatens the 4.6 million benchmark set by Mayweather's 2015 fight with Manny Pacquiao. At $99.95 a buy, the fight is tracking to generate more than $450 million in television revenue, much of which will be shared by the two fighters.

Wouldn't be the first time Showtime lied about the numbers though.Best Coast wrote:Showtime says between 4-5 million PPVs:Mexi-Box wrote:Raefal supposedly says it's not. 4 mil. is the absolute highest.

Re: So if 6.5 is the real number
Not saying Showtime never lies about numbers (or anything else) but just that they tend to lie less than Dana White. And the final tallies will be a lot closer to 4.5 million than 6.5 million.Mexi-Box wrote:Wouldn't be the first time Showtime lied about the numbers though.Best Coast wrote:Showtime says between 4-5 million PPVs:Mexi-Box wrote:Raefal supposedly says it's not. 4 mil. is the absolute highest.

That's regular TV. Streams wouldn't touch it. Not enough people that care. Too many channels.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:What if streams were counted?SaadOffTheDeck wrote:It's just a different time, Ali probably had 40 million viewers for fights.
