Anthony Joshua 2017 v Mike Tyson 1986.

Post by Mimmy »

Im not one for fantasy match ups but just been watching Mike Tyson v David Jaco from 1986. Tyson fought 13 times in 86 including his first world title fight. 13 fights in less than 12 months possibly wont be matched these days but what a year it was for Tyson.

So lets put AJ in the mix here. If AJ of now 2017, and world champion fought the Tyson of 86 who is the challenger how do you think tbe fight would have gone? Would AJ have lasted longer than Trevor Berbick or would it have been a more competive fight with Joshua having a decent chance to beat Iron Mike.

I'll hesitantly take Joshua.the physical dimensions are just a big ask for someone with Tyson's limited ring iq

In my honest opinion Mike Tyson was the best heavyweight ever , he beat every man in front of him before his decline , every champion , they were scared before they entered the ring , he put the fear of god into all men....so for me itd take him 2 or 3 rounds to obliterate AJ....just my opinion

I'd love to see both fighter's approach to such a fight, mentally, physically and tactically.

AJ is to robotic in this fight against a faster Tyson of course AJ Is much bigger and has a lot of power but Tyson had a great chin I think a young Tyson Takes AJ out in 3

Tyson lights him up like a Christmas tree.

Joshua is no Lewis. Tyson obliterates klitschko too.

Lewis dismantles klitschko and Joshua.

I think Joshua would get stopped but Wlad would make life very difficult for Tyson tying him up on the inside, making it awkward and sitting on the outside peppering that jab into his face for the rest of the time.

Even though Tyson gets over rated by his big fans, I would see him obliterating AJ inside three rounds- those early years, Tyson was pretty good with his speed and movement

I don't agree with that assessment at all.
The 1987/1988 version of Tyson beats Holyfield easily IMO.

LOL. Lewis in his 19th fight went the distance against Levi "Frigging" Billups and couldn't even hurt Billups, who was KO'ed 10 times (including 7 or 8 early and brutal KTFOs). Joshua in his 19th fight knocked out a guy, who dominated the division for 10 years.

AJ actually grown on me but Tyson walks through him.

Whereas Tyson was once hugely overrated, history now completely underestimates just how savage and hard to handle he was in his couple peak years.

Holyfield was all wrong for Tyson, at any stage.

Tyson is all wrong for AJ. It would be a short and painful night for Joshua. Tyson inside six for sure, most likely inside three.

Not to be picky, but didn't Holy literally have a heart attack in the ring on his worst day? I feel like Tyson beats that Vander

Interesting question. But at his best (even though it didn't last long) I thought Tyson was the best heavy ever. I believe his speed would mean he would clip Joshua clean and his power would ko him.

Tyson of 1986 would be all over AJ like a cat on a kipper,

would be horrific regardless of weight in my opinion

If Joshua weren't intimidated he could hang for a few rounds, but I think he would be, and wouldn't.
