Jeff Horn eyes Jesse Vargas after Manny Pacquiao withdrawal

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Jeff Horn admitted to being "annoyed" after Manny Pacquiao pulled out of a rematch, but the Australian has now set his sights on American Jesse Vargas in a defence of his WBO welterweight title.

Horn upset Pacquiao in a victory July 2, but hopes of a rematch for Nov. 12 were dashed last Friday when the Filipino pulled out.

"I'm frustrated. I'm kind of annoyed that it's taken this long to make a decision but, look, that's boxing, I'm figuring out that now. That's what happens at the top of the game, guys mess around with you a lot," Horn told Reuters.

He added: "Yeah, [Jesse] Vargas is a fight that we'd definitely take. He's a tough competitor and he's been world champion, he's held my belt just before Pacquiao, so he'd definitely be a tough fight and worthy opponent."

4 Egidijus Kavaliauskas
5 Konstantin Ponomarev
6 Taras Shelestyuk
7 Giovanni Santillan (NABO)
8 Adrian Luciano Veron (Latino)
9 Jessie Vargas
10 Ray Robinson
11 Gary Corcoran (Inter-Cont)
12 Stephen Danyo (WBO Europe)
13 Carlos Ocampo
14 Qudratillo Abduguharov
15 Custio Clayton

Other than being with Top Rank, neither guy deserves a title shot. I'm not even sure if Matthysse is....or Horn either. Matthysse has done nothing at welter yet, and got KO'd by Postol.

Give the shot to Spence for a unification. I hope they do that or give Crawford a shot at Horn. Horn was running his mouth, lets see if he can walk the walk.

If he has any pride he will fight Ray Robinson, the most ducked fighter in the division.

Out of that list, Qudratillo Abduguharov deserves it the most, and I'd love to see it. Jesse Vargas isn't a bad matchup though.

Anyone who fights Horn in Australia had better KO him.

After that fiasco decision Horn got over Pac I wouldnt blame ANY fighter for shying away from fighting in Oz.

Only idiots would say that.
Fighting Horn in Australia has nothing to do with the Venue,
they were 2 American Judges and a Judge from Argentina.
and an American Referee. Horn won a UN DEC. Enough Said.

Nobody is ducking him. His best two opponents he faced he lost to. His best win is who? Maybe Ray Nahr 4 years ago...

It would be a non-title fight as a voluntary would have to be top 15 as far as i'm aware.

Does anyone know who promotes Horn? Spence or Thurman should be the fight. I have a feeling Arum has Horn so he can have Vargas fight him. Vargas is a light hitter that couldn't compete with Pac or Bradley.

Vargas lost but he competed. Horn v Vargas would be very interesting.

That is true, but I cringe at the thought of a guy like Vargas getting a shot at a title, especially one he can win. I guess he would be no worse champion than Horn, so I should just be happy with it.

Lamont Peterson refused a mandatory against him.
Danny Garcia fought a non-title fight rather than fight him when he was the only available ranked opponent. And that fight was in the hometown they share.

He lost eight years ago on the road to Shawn Porter and Brad Solomon and since has beat everyone he possibly can but people won't fight him.

Do you honestly mean to tell me that Garcia has fought Thurman, Matthysse, and Peterson, but is running from Robinson? I haven't seen Robinson in a few years, but unless he has drastically improved, he's not a top level guy. He's not even a level below the top level guys. I guess we have to see him prove it in the ring, but I've never been overall impressed with him honestly.

I would love to see Horn fight Egidijus Kavaliauskas actually... He would get knocked kicking -- so you wouldn't have to worry about corrupt judges.

The sad thing is that Egidijus Kavaliauskas has been a professional for going on 5 years and he has 17 fights... For me that's ridiculous when you consider Joe Louis had far fewer amateur fights than Kavaliauskas and fought Primo Carnera when he had 11 months experience -- and fought Max Baer when he had 14 months experience... He had many more fights... Mike Tyson had the Heavyweight Championship 18 months after he turned professional, in his 28th fight.

These days, no matter how good you are they put you on the shelf and let you die there... You're in your mid 30's before you get any opportunity.
