Mayweather vs. McGregor: Official Scorercards

I barely paid attention to this whole fight from the beginning, so much so I didn't even know what the rules were. Now that I realised it was a boxing match, I think it's time for Floyd to retire. A guy who was not a pro boxer lasted almost 10 rds with him, that's a pretty poor performance.

Does it matter how long it lasted? Floyd's timing was way off in the first round - but rumour has it he didn't even spar in this one. He ended up taking the fight to a man 25lb heavier and beat the brakes off him after ripping his body for a few rounds - i thought he performed the best he has since Cotto, he was diabolical vs Pac & Berto.

I got caught up in the emotion the first time plus I watched it on a small screen. Just watched it again. McGreggor won the first 2 rounds thats it, with his keep away jab and straight while Floyd didnt punch. Mayweather blocked far, far more then I realised, basically only a handful of McGreggors punches landed early on, everything else was on the glove/partial or just weak and walked through. Floyd pulled back with the head at time which looked like Conor was tagging him with a jab but it wasn't doing shite. Floyd was in no harm whatsoever in the first 3 or further. Just very relaxed, sparring, walking him down. On second view really doesnt bode well for Conor, I thought he was the ufc most devastating puncher, didnt make a dent in him, of the punchers that landed.

What a nut hugger, of course Mayweather won but McGregor gave him some hard shots that hurt him.

Sorry mate, didnt hurt him at all. Did nothing to him. Watch the fight again, watch the effective blocking by Floyd in the first 3. Then watch every other round and see a McConor being dominated.

I watched it twice. Mayweather was hurt looked hurt and acted hurt that's why he kept calling the ref to save him. You really are a casual.

In my opinion Conor clearly took the first two, as Floyd did nothing, third was a toss-up as Floyd came into it a bit, and after that it was all Mayweather.

Punching power always depends on the target. Floyd knows how to mitigate the effect of punches by moving his head properly. Had he been as stationary of a target as Conor was in the second half, Floyd would have gotten into trouble. You can't hurt what you can't hit cleanly though.

As for what Conor said before the fight: He did what he had to do to sell the fight and he was brilliant at it. Floyd isn't a great talker, his fists do the talking. So Conor had to sell the fight and he delivered on all accounts.

Of course the scorecards are not important when a fight ends via TKO and obviously Floyd wasn't going to let the judges decide.

So those cards being a round either side of that are ok with me.

I really struggle to see how anyone could give mcgregor anything past 3. 3 was Mayweather to me but if someone said Conor 3, ok it was close ish.

McCregor won round 1,2,3 after that it was all Floyd.
I thought Connor did pretty good. Better than I thought.

..that's pretty much the way I saw it..looked like a chess game to me where the grandmaster figured the novice out in the first 3-4 rounds and then was gradually taking him apart..

There was one key moment, I believe at the end of round 3 which tells the whole story of the bout.
Conor was obviously instructed to counter Floyd with an uppercut and a small combo each time Floyd closes the distance. In the early rounds he was very successful with that one-dimensional approach. Then suddenly when Floyd feinted closing in and Conor again reacted with the uppercut, Floyd looked at Conor like he was saying "I figured you out, now I'm going to pick you apart".

I immediately thought this was going to be the turning point. Conor was still looking good for 1-2 more rounds after that but he didn't win anything afterwards.

Good observation. I just yesterday watched the fight again and saw exactly that. In the second viewing I managed to give only Round 1 and 2 to Connor. I like chess matches.

I had it 7-2 on the night but on subsequent viewings you could give both the third to McGregor and possibly the seventh. He was never really in there though, even early on when Mayweather was just looking at him and covering up he was controlling the fight.

dominant floyd is. yet in this case it
seems they do and i do think they are
accurate. i thought the scorecards
versus pac were generous for floyd,
but here they are not.

mcgregor's composure for quite a
while made it look like he was still
in there, while in fact it was over as
soon as floyd started coming forward.

floyd only does that if he has things
under control, especially at his age
and with the ring rust. and he was
in control because connor could not
reach him and if he did, there was
no power whatsover reaching floyd.

in the end connor is an arm puncher
and not a professional boxer. age
and ringrust are the only reasons
why he lasted so long in this one.

connor did a fantastic job in getting
and hyping this fight into something
every boxing fan knew it wasn't:
a competitive bout.

yet there is nothing to be impressed
about on floyd's side. he simply gave
a sparring session to a debut fighter.
what was very interesting to see is
the difference between a man, who
is a real good puncher in MMA vs the
pure punching of a pro boxer.

i saw a marine giving advice on what
to learn as self defence the other day
and he said: start with brazilian jiu
jitsu and after that do boxing. sounds
like good advice.

The fact that a man "who has no business in boxing" actually made it fun and interesting, should be given the nod... There were literally millions of boxing diehards who honestly believed McGregor would be hospitalized or worse... So considering the outcome, etc he defied expectations.

The shame of it all is Boxing fans, etc want to minimalize it and spin alternative facts saying Floyd carried him, etc... There's a universe of difference between strategy and carrying, and I'm sick of people saying that he carried him. He just waited for McGregor to tire out.

My scores were along these lines: 5-4 or 6-3-1.

The uppercut that was shown in slow mo? The arm punch uppercut that didnt wobble his legs, that didnt stop him coming forward or even freeze him. The low blow, that was a low blow, in round 9 where Floyd completly dominated and came on after being low blowed? You know boxers take punches to the head for a living. Hurt? There's a difference between a punch landing and a punch hurting a fighter.

Mcgregor did damn well. Imo Floyd couldn't carry Mcgregor because he showed signs of old age and ring rust. Even in the Berto fight you could see Floyd had lost a step. No fighter on the age 40 and 2 yews out the game is gonna look great. Floyd came on strong only after he saw Mcgregor getting tired that was their plan. Mcgregor won st least 4 rounds imo

Conor McGregor never hurt Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Even the infamous counter right uppercut thrown by McGregor that landed during the first round did absolutely nothing to Floyd.

At no point in the contest did Floyd look remotely troubled by Conor's punches, with the notable exception of the low blow that was thrown at the start of the ninth round.
