I've heard Frampton may be in the market for a new trainer, he seems to like inexperienced unqualified blokes training him, maybe Seamus will get the gig.
Re: Seamus Macklin
Bit harsh on Shane McGuigan maybe? Inexperienced - most definitely but he had a good amateur career and has more knowledge on strength and conditioning than a lot of trainers out there.Counter-puncher wrote:I've heard Frampton may be in the market for a new trainer, he seems to like inexperienced unqualified blokes training him, maybe Seamus will get the gig.

And we have separate S&G coaches today and maybe he should stick to thatDeno1986 wrote:Bit harsh on Shane McGuigan maybe? Re: Seamus Macklin
I think he takes a bit of unwarranted flak because of who is Dad is. He's trained a 2 weight world champion - not bad for a young, inexperienced trainer. Time will tell if it was beginners luck or not. He had a good boxer to work with in fairness but I do think he's a good trainer.tobyh5 wrote:And we have separate S&G coaches today and maybe he should stick to thatDeno1986 wrote:Bit harsh on Shane McGuigan maybe? Seems a nice chap but defo hasn't earned his stripes whether he is good or bad trainers
Re: Seamus Macklin
I would be amazed if he had that many, more like 5 winning 3
Re: Seamus Macklin
He won the Ulsters and narrowly missed out on a second Ulster titleCoco wrote:Good amateur career???Deno1986 wrote:Bit harsh on Shane McGuigan maybe? Under 10s novice title I meant
Re: Seamus Macklin
He's won 3 national titles in Ireland. I'm pretty sure he's had more than 15 fights too. I reckon it was closer to 40.sweetscience wrote:Pretty sure he had sub 15 fights.... How many fights amateur or pro did Angelo Dundee have ?
Re: Seamus Macklin
Are we talking national titles or Ulster titles? I reckon one Ulster title, beating a novice.Deno1986 wrote:He's won 3 national titles in Ireland. I'm pretty sure he's had more than 15 fights too. I missed the other 2, so how many fights did he have? And did he fight anyone of note?Deno1986 wrote:1 National U21 Championship

Re: Seamus Macklin
I reckon it was between 30-40 between Ireland and England, Coco. He fought a few decent club boxers in Ireland but nobody that has gone on to better things. I'm not sure of who he fought in England. Apparently he won an English Senior novices title too before he moved to box in Ireland.Coco wrote:I missed the other 2, so how many fights did he have? According to this interview – http://theballsofwrath.com/the-shane-mc ... interview/
No idea how reliable a source it is.Naturally well-built, bigger than his old man ever was, and heavy-handed, Shane embarked on a 69kg amateur career that included senior titles, over 30 wins and just a couple of losses that Jake assures me were both dubious decisions. He was sparring the likes of BJ Saunders, Frank Buglioni and Bradley Skeete, and a pro career appeared to beckon. But for a kid that weighed a solid 74kg at 16 years of age, making weight in his late teens was becoming a tougher fight than anything between the ropes.
Re: Seamus Macklin
I remember reading that Barry had him in different clubs trying to win titles in England and Ireland, picking the weakest option and flitting between the two.Coco wrote:I missed the other 2, so how many fights did he have? And did he fight anyone of note?Deno1986 wrote:1 National U21 Championship

I think he got to a Novice under 10 final in England (not sure if he won) - however, in reality he could have done that in 2 or 3 fights against basic opposition.
Same goes with the novice titles in Ireland.
Not trying to knock the lad, but when you read from Barry how he could have been a top top pro etc. there is no evidence to support that.

Re: Seamus Macklin
to win a novice U10 title at his weight you have to be pretty good
obv you can get the odd poor division / luck,, but unlikely at welter/light middle

You don't need to have been a horse to be a jockey.
Re: Seamus Macklin
There are a lot of comments about how great he could have been etc. (mostly from Barry).sweetscience wrote:to win a novice U10 title at his weight you have to be pretty good

However, there is a distinct lack of details - how many bouts did he have and who did he box?

Re: Seamus Macklin
yeah I think the key thing with the ams is who you fight/fought... not numbersbripez wrote:There are a lot of comments about how great he could have been etc. (mostly from Barry).sweetscience wrote:to win a novice U10 title at his weight you have to be pretty good
