HW #2 ?

Post by ValMar »

I think that every normal fan knows that Joshua is #1 HW.
Who is #2 HW (supposing Fury stay retired) ?
I have not put Haye and Povetkin on the list, I am not sure if they were healthy/clean.........

That's a tough one.
Based on who he could beat, if he tried, I would say Wilder. But based on resume he would be #3-4. It would be simple if Wilder fought Ortiz, because it would be one or the other. There is such a gap after the boxrec top 5 in resume. Wilder is the only one I would give more than a 10% chance of beating AJ, so there is a gap between #1 and the rest as well.

I rank Povetkin as #2 but from these it's Wilder he can lose to everyone on that list though. we'll get a clear answer after Wilder/Ortiz fight.

Joshua #1? Alrighty then.

#2, regardless of anyone active, is Tyson Fury.

The real question is who is #3, #4, #5, etc

Fury hasn't boxed for nearly two years and has nothing scheduled. He shouldn't be ranked until he's gotten in the ring again.

Still Ring Magazine Champion and the linear Champion. That trumps anyone fighting.

I cannot recall a time when the heavyweight division had less talent than it does now.

I've read that same line since 1977.

Why? In reality the lab that occused him from some wrongdoing itself is actually currently suspended. Next to that probably the reason why Stiverne and Wilder can't reveil their fightplans at this moment, otherwise they will be tested by a real Wada lab.
I think Fury is the real rank two, then Klitschko, then Povetkin, then Ortiz, who might actually lose his rank sometime soon.

He retired a couple of months ago. In his own words on Twitter. Wank Foreign says no. Tyson says yes. Either way, he isn't getting in the ring until he can fit between the ropes. Let him be. It's over.

As of August 2017 Tyson Fury is still recognized as their Champion... Fact is he's not retired, as his Boxing License is under review, as he's petitioning to compete... Just because someone says something on Twitter doesn't mean shit... There's ALOT of paperwork involved in retiring and relinquishing belts, friend. He's never relinquished anything.

I'll say Lennox Lewis then, also trumps anyone actually fighting.
Followed by Rocky Marciano

Probably Povetkin or Wilder. Unfortunately over the last few years guys ranked from 2-10 haven't really been fighting each other, just waiting for their turn at a title shot.

Exactly. People are always complaining about the HW division and the young generation. The former complaints go back about 100 years, the later a few thousand years.

Back to the present: the problem with the HW today is nobody is fighting anybody. These fights are made in slow motion. If the top 20 guys had 3 fights a year with other top 20 guys the division would be highly entertaining. If - right.

You do exaggerate....Every fukcing year since 1977 - Anthony Joshua would have been top 10 HW, Tyson Fury (Chisora 2 version) too.
Wilder, Ortiz, clean Povetkin and fit Haye would have been among top 20, certainly.
Joyce, Yoka, Hrgović, Dychko and Dubois are coming (and Usyk, I hope).....Not so bad.......

Fury would have been a punching bag in the late 80's-90's.

No ! He would have been among top 10 (every year), as I said before. He defeated Wlad, and there are/were not a lot of fighters capable for that.
