Loma vs Rigo

Post by cardy »

I still believe that Rigo is the number 1 pound for pound boxer and if Loma accepts the challenge then he will be outclassed. Rigo beats mayweather anytime any day.

What's the agreed upon weight for this bout?

Rigo is a munchkin going against a strong lightweight.

Doesn't make any sense. Rigo's defensive skills may keep him upright for a while, but I can't see him getting anything effective going offensively. He'll be on a non-stop bicycle by round 4.

Definitely a money grab fight for the Cuban.

I suppose "a money grab" is a relative term. 3G v GingerHead it is not.

I would never use "money grab" in a derogatory manner. I'm a hard core capitalist myself, so I certainly won't condemn anyone---Loma, Rigo, Floyd, or Mr. McGregor---for going after the bucks.

But in the case of the Cuban, it would appear that he's taking a fight he simply can't win. He's willing to take a career beating in exchange for the highest purse of his career.

Sure, McGregor did the same thing. What fighter wouldn't for $100 million?

Rigo won't get anywhere near that figure. Maybe over $1 million? Probably as much as he's made in his career.

So strictly a money grab. But good for Rigo. He has a lofty reputation in terms of skill. His reputation as an exciting fighter isn't exactly top tier.

But Rigo's not worried about his P4P standing. He'll risk embarrassment.

There should be more like him.

Rigo is not now nor was he ever #1 Pound for Pound. Loma will beat him in a one sided fight if the fight takes place. Rigo won't win more than 2 rounds. If that.

Not even Top 300. I'm not sure if he'd even rank as Top 10 All Time at 122 pounds. He might though. I've never taken the time to make a list for that weight class.

Which means that people rank as good as they are in your imagination. That's a sh*t way to rank fighters.

This fight hasn't been made yet.

It's a stretch moving Rigondeaux up two weight classes.
Same thing happened with Brook and GGG.
It's one of those you'd love to see although it comes tainted.

I have been against it for the obvious reasons. But, if Rigo wants to go for it, more power to him.

No. That means that i rank boxer by quality. I rank by how is the better boxer. You rank by who has the better record. Whixh is less accurate, because a boxer with a inferior record can beat a boxer with a far superior record.

This is true Jip. A fighter with an inferior record can beat a boxer with a superior record. No question about that. But in terms of All Time Rankings it's BS to rank guys on "maybe" or "most likely" they could've beaten that Elite level of competition when there are guys from the Boxing's past that DID beat that Elite level...multiple times, and there ain't no maybe to it. They did it! That's why a lot of guys rank over Rigondeaux. All the things you are pretty sure Rigo could do, they actually did it...there's no question.

Wilfredo Gomez for instance #1 fighter of all time at 122 pounds without question. He made 16 Title defenses of his 122 Pound title all by KO. He then moved up to win the Featherweight Title and later the Jr. Lightweight Title (granted though his Jr. Lightweight title win was questionable)...nevertheless the point is.

Compare that to Rigondeaux who has made 7 title defenses of his WBA crown at 122...one of which is a No Contest.

Did you even know who Gomez was? Do you rank Rigondeaux ahead of him? And if so...why?

Rigo is pretty much the best super bantamweight ever... Look at all the guys who simply refused to fight him... He may be a little underrated because he's so defensive... but he's not the best boxer in the world... I think he's 4th or 5th and with his all around game he's maybe 10th... All-time, all weights he's probably in the top 25... Not too many guys are unbeaten and can beat everybody in their weight class without question... But he's not beating Loma.

I love Gomez and he's miles ahead of rigo, rightful #1 in the division. Morales would have kicked his ass.

Rigondeau would have kicked Gomez's ass no problem...

Gomez wasn't a real good boxer and Salvador Sanchez boxed the piss out of Gomez and knocked him out with very little effort... There weren't any real good super bantamweights to fight Gomez at that time -- but Sanchez was a better boxer than even Rigondeaux is -- so Gomez had no chance in Hell to win.. Sanchez beat Gomez inside and outside.. If Sanchez wasn't the greatest fighter of all time he was in the top 5.. Maybe Tunney, Pep, Mayweather, and Loma.. I don't know who else would be better than Sanchez.. He was smooth as glass, very busy, and tireless.. He didn't clinch.. He just kept throwing and wore your ass out.
