WBC creates spectacular 'Two Nation's Belt' for GGG v Canelo

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

In a packed to the rafters press conference in Mexico City, World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman, Fernando Montilla director of Makrame, Lorena Wong, marketing Director of Interjet and Rodrigo Cobo CEO of Talaria, presented a masterpiece belt of Huichol craftsmanship, to be awarded to the winner of the September 16 fight between WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

The eagerly anticipated fight of the year, happening on Mexican Independence Day, will take place at the T-mobile Arena in Las Vegas Nevada.

This magnificent and unique Huichol belt, which reflects the heritage of an entire culture that has remained intact through time, tells an individual tale, while equally representing the flags of Mexico and Kazakhstan. Artist Luis de la Cruz worked over 300 hours alongside his brother Sergio, to achieve this. Both of them managed to capture the essence of two great boxing nations.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, who said he's so proud that Mexico's Interjet is one of the major sponsors, expressed his satisfaction at being able to recognize the greatness of Mexico through this belt. It bears the name of President, Adolfo López Mateos... an instrumental and driving force in the creation of the World Boxing Council.

He commented that this magnificent belt, which is a work of art, is a profound recognition to commemorate the most emblematic dates for Mexico, May 5 and September 16, celebrations. On these two very special dates, the premier television networks screen the most brilliant fights. Viva México!

On this fabled night, GGG and Canelo bring the might of eighty eight combined fights to bear, and something must surely give!

As an acknowledgement of the significance and importance of this tremendous event, the Royalty of Mexican Boxing was at hand. The star lineup included: Pipino Cuevas, Chiqiita Gonzalez, Rafael Herrera, Daniel Zaragoza, Rafael "Bazooka" Limon, Isaac "Tortas" Bustos, Francisco Vargas, Ganigan Lopez, Ibeth "Roca" Zamora, Alejandra Jimenez and Eduardo "Rocky" Hernandez.

What a fight, what a night... and what a belt!

I want to knock it, but it's actually pretty cool.
No word on how much it will cost each fighter, it if they will want to pay for a trinket like that.
The article is like an infomercial

Canelo won't be paying a single dime to the WBC.

Yet another one of their "We make a belt every time somebody in Boxing takes a sh*t" trinkets. I know Canelo ain't paying a dime for it. GGG would be foolish to spend anything for it either.

Do the fighters actually have to pay a fee for these WBC belts?

Golovkin 3 days ago already was below the weight limit, not surprised if he'll be the faster fighter and blasts Canelo but I appreciate Alvarez he is a good boxer but not better than GGG and just smaller.
