Most Difficult Weight Class To Become Champion

Post by mallybryant »

Hi All, Am wondering which division has the most boxers thereby making it the most difficult (numerically anyway) in which to win a World Title? Many Thanks, Mally.

No way of telling 'ços of numerous "world" title governing bodies and their respective champs.
These days "world champion" is good for publicity, hype & what not.....in the end means SFA unless....he/she sends at least 3 so called "world" champs to cleaners.....and then it's subject to politics - Once upon a time WBC, WBA, IBF were considered majors. These days, they are no different to WBO, IBO, WBF, WBU & 50 other. All are private/family business enterprise trading under shelf company. Vice-presidents, Ratings chair/committee etc etc is absolute CRAP, but I must admit it's extremely impressive

WHY ARE THERE SO MANY TITLES AND BELTS?
BECAUSE WBA AND WBC SHOWED, SINCE DAY ONE, THAT THERE WAS MONEY TO BE MADE JUST LIKE WHY ARE CORNER STORES OPEN ALL OVER THE WORLD MONEY FROM SMALL AMOUNTS TO LARGE AMOUNTS TO BE MADE.

But, what might be more in keeping with the original question: Can Boxrec's database be used to quantify the depth of the talent pool in one division in one year, by returning for example the number of fights that took place or the number of fighters who were active/ranked in that year?

IMO the welterweight and lightweight are the most difficult to achieve world championship due to high quantity of individuals and as being on the average weight and height of a human being (for many boxers not being so tough to achieve the weight if closer to the measurements). * The higher the weight division, more the power, less agility and speed of boxers (of course, there are the rare cases of human freaks like Tyson, Joshua, Marciano, Ali and its, who with (beyond genetics) hard training, combine speed, reflexes, agility and very high power).

I consider the welterweight as the most prestigious division, with more fighters and being the division where speed, agility and power are more equally evident. The middleweight as being the same of welterweight to watch, but with a bit more power in evidence than speed, agility; and the heavyweight for being a division where you see the brutality and power in most fights.
