I'd say Max Baer is underrated as hell. Galento, Schmeling, Carnera, Levinsky, Schaaf, etc. is one helluva record of wins. But like James Douglas, he didn't take boxing altogether seriously. I think in alot of ways, he loved the fame and money and the women, but he hated the weight of the heavyweight championship. I think he actually said on many occasions that he was glad to be rid of the belt. He didn't try one iota against Jim Braddock, except for the last round. But he was fierce, he was a murderous puncher (literally) and he could take a helluva punch. And he had an amazing personality, a helluva showman. Could you imagine Baer vs Ali and the kind of interest drummed up? It'd probably make McGregor vs Mayweather look like nothing.

Quarry overrated ? He dropped Patterson 4 times in 2 fights, a win and a draw, stopped a pretty good contender in Thad Spencer, took a one sided decision from the bigger and heavier 29-1 Buster Mathis, stopped 24-0 (24K’s ) Mac Foster in 6, iced Commonwealth champion Jack Bodell, who just took the title from Joe Bugner in a round, totally dominated a bigger stronger Ron Lyle, and demolished Earnie Shavers in 1 round.

We're ALSO talking about the same Jerry Quarry who was KAYOED by George Chuvalo. The same Jerry Quarry who DREW Tony Doyle and went the distance with Brian London. The same Jerry Quarry who was STOPPED and OUTCLASSED by Ali twice, Norton once, and Frazier twice. The same Jerry Quarry who was outclassed by Eddie Machen and Jimmy Ellis.

With all your straight talk, might as well place an asterisk on the Chuvalo moment. Also....Ali, Frazier, Norton....doesn't do a lot to diminish a fighter. Machen and Ellis no slouches themselves. But the point of this thread is helped to be made by your words.....he's not under rated. Most people recognize his potential.

Morrison is not a bad call in my opinion. Wonder if he hadn't experienced Hollywood if that would have made a difference....seems Hollywood can sap your strength......
