Benavidez 19-0 down once vs Gavril but won Friday
Re: Benavidez 18-0 v Gavril 18-1 & Qullin Comeback •Friday@10pm•
Benavidez hammers Gavril with heavy shots in the 11th. Gavril looks like he's almost done, Benavidez doing a lot of damage in the 11th.
8-3 Benavidez

Gavril scores a knockdown in the 12th as Benavidez got a little overconfident and walked into one there. Seemed like more of a flash knockdown than anything, but it's a good moment to end the fight on for Gavril.
115-112 Benavidez is my final score. Good fight

Gavril corner telling him he won the fight. Laughable.

Benavidez not as impressive as last fight, but still looking very good for a 20-year-old.

He's a solid young fighter. Always good to see a young fighter show the stamina he showed tonight. We now know he can handle himself late in a tough fight.crusader wrote:Benavidez not as impressive as last fight, but still looking very good for a 20-year-old.

Benavidez outlanded him in all but 1 round and by 60 in the fight and these commentators are acting like this was a close fight. Benavidez pretty clearly won 6 of the first 7 rounds. We need unbiased commentary that isn't slanted toward an underdog showing a lot of heart. A good effort doesn't win fights. Landing punches does.
116-111 Gavril is THE worst scorecard I've ever heard in my life.

The 117-111 and 116-111 cards for DB were dead on.
Re: Benavidez 18-0 v Gavril 18-1 & Qullin Comeback •Friday@10pm•
I heard Oscar Escandon announced as the winner over Tyson Cave, and Brandon Rios announced as the winner over Richar Abril. Those 2 are probably the worst I've seen. That one was definitely crap though.diddy wrote:Benavidez outlanded him in all but 1 round and by 60 in the fight and these commentators are acting like this was a close fight. Still a great prospect, but I think we can put an end to Medina being a p4p measuring stick.

Benavidez won by a few points. Entertaining, tough fight. Gavril was a worthy skilled and determined opponent. Gavril's trainer is a bit delusional though.

Gavril has a head of steel. He still needs to see a doctor.

You're from Philly, right? Everett/escalera makes that look solid.diddy wrote:Benavidez outlanded him in all but 1 round and by 60 in the fight and these commentators are acting like this was a close fight. I mean that win over Medina didn't even put him into the Top 10 at 168 for me. This win tonight probably did. I'll have a look at my rankings in a minute.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Still a great prospect, but I think we can put an end to Medina being a p4p measuring stick.

In other news. Let us shame Richard Ocasio and Glenn Trowbridge for their awful scoring tonight.

He wasnt even that hyped as a prospect before Medina, but after Porky and all those nice combos there was suddenly talk of him already being the top SMW. Very promising indeed, but I think the hype needed to be cooled a bit; Medina is essentially a glorified gatekeepergilgamesh wrote:I mean that win over Medina didn't even put him into the Top 10 at 168 for me. Gavril is certainly tough, though Im not sure how big of a win it is when he couldnt even get past Elvin Ayala.

Re: Benavidez 19-0 down once vs Gavril but won Friday
Benavidez clearly won but his showboating in the middle rounds shows he needs some maturity. The flash knockdown never hurt him but he got sloppy in the final round and got caught coming in.
Hopefully his learning experience in this one will help him avoid clowning/showboating in the future.

I'm not familiar with that one. I do know Gavril clearly lost 6 of the first 7 rounds tonight...making him winning EIGHT a literal impossibility.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:You're from Philly, right? Everett, from Philly, won 12-15 rounds fighting at home and lost. To make matters worse, his gf caught him with a tranny and murdered him.

Re: Benavidez 19-0 down once vs Gavril but won Friday
I had it 115-112 Benavidez. The scorecard for Gavril was shocking. Both guys deserve real credit though. Gavril for hanging tough and starting to turn the fight around in the mid-rounds, and Benavidez for showing his mettle by retaking control of the fight later on.
How about Benavidez vs. JCC? Chudinov would be a good opponent too.
Oh, and J'Leon Love sucks. Now and forever.

Re: Benavidez 19-0 down once vs Gavril but won Friday
I don't think Benavidez is ready for that. Zurdo is like 6 years older and significantly more experienced. I'd rather see Zurdo unify with Groves or Eubank who are more on his level right now.
Re: Benavidez 19-0 down once vs Gavril but won Friday
Haven't watched the full fight yet. How do people think Benavidez fares against top 10 SMW's? Ideally you wouldn't rush him into anything he's not ready for but for as long as he's got the belt he'll have a target on his back. Then again, we all know what the WBC are like when it comes to enforcing mandatories so I wouldn't be surprised to see him face hand picked opponents for another 3 or 4 fights.

He's a pbc fighter so he probably won't fight until next summer.
