Holy is probably the clearest #1 just because Cruiser has only been around for 40 years and traditionally has been a very weak division because most fighters good enough to be world champ at CW decided to jump straight from Light Heavy straight to the far more prestigious HW crown!! (Roy Jones, Moorer, Byrd, etc).ElJefe wrote:Is Holyfield the clearest #1 of all time in any division in boxing? He's got to be up there.

I think he again was only offensive minded and that won't work vs straight counterpunchers who can move

True but that doesnt mean Jirov wasnt surrounded by similar hype. The guy that wrote this emo-driven thread is clearly a sucker for the hype to rate him as the GREATEST CRUISER ALREADY!!crusader wrote:#1 is over the top, but Usyk already has stronger wins and has shown better boxing skills than Jirov. The same can probably also be said if we're comparing him to JC Gomez and other established cruiser names.

There's great talent there in the cruiserweight division and some great fights there, like Kudryashov-Dorticos, like all of them. But what happened to the champ, Grigory Drozd? Is he unable to fight anymore due to injury?

Glowacki was #1 on boxrec atTanzio wrote:We don't even know if he is the best current cruiser.
Usyk came, beat him, became #1
Than good cw came along like breidis and gassiev. They not on usyks level, you know boxing, watch them, dont tell me they on his league
Re: Usyk is the best cruiserweight ever
Usyk is a amateur world champion and olympic gold medalist undefeated pro ranked #1with never before seen skills at cw and wiping out the cw division which has never been stronger than today. Usyk is the best.
Re: Usyk is the best cruiserweight ever
Jumping the gun.
#3 for now. If he wins the WBSS then #2
If he wins the WBSS convincingly there is some argument for #1 but it will take a bit more for me to knock Evander off #1.

Yeah I believe he ofically retired some time ago because of knees problems. would like to see Drozd version from Wlodarczyk fight vs Usyk.x2x wrote:dagilechia wrote:it's not - Usyk meets Briedis/Perez and Gassiev/Wlodarczyk meet Dorticos/Kudryashov but I agree logically it should be as you saidBlodhemn wrote: I think the way it's setup, Usyk will face Dorticos/Kudryashov. i just check out, there were rumours that he retired but he denied it april 2017 - and he is looking for an opponent, i don't believe he'll ever back and even if he's back I can't see him compete at the same level as beforedagilechia wrote:Yeah I believe he ofically retired some time ago because of knees problems. would like to see Drozd version from Wlodarczyk fight vs Usyk.x2x wrote:dagilechia wrote: it's not - Usyk meets Briedis/Perez and Gassiev/Wlodarczyk meet Dorticos/Kudryashov but I agree logically it should be as you said

Why do you mention Spinks and Moorer? They weren't cruiserweights.Jip wrote:I know you guys all think that only old school or old old school boxer can be atg or #1 ever in a division and boxer from 2000 till now are nothing more than good.
Take for one time your nostalgia glasses off and tell me 1 cruiserweight who had the total package of phenomenal footwork, punxh variation, control, balance, power & speed like Usyk has. You wont find nobody. Spinks and Moorer looked limited compared to this guy. Evander tremendous footwork himself but not as good as usyks. Also when talking about variety of punches, ring iq usyk just better.
You can't criticise other people's nostalgic-based opinions if you are personally unable to accurately recall historical events that took place in the real world.

Usyk 1
Remember, that Evander was actually a novice the first time around & hadn't fully matured at that point.
By the time of the rematch, Holyfield was the 'real deal' & that's the fighter you should be judging.
Re: Usyk is the best cruiserweight ever
Usyk is a marvellous Cruiserweight, superb technique, beautiful balance, excellent ring-generalship but is he the best ever? I prefer to reserve judgement on that, but he's certainly in a very select few who might be.
Genuine question that has a big effect on the answer: Are we talking about only their performances as a Cruiser or can our perception of the merits of each Cruiser in contention, be affected by their performances in other weight divisions? Holyfield was a top Heavyweight, as we all know and that does enhance my perception of him as the best Cruiser ever.
Could Usyk win the Heavyweight crown? I believe it's possible, but not very likely. His skills are superior to those of Anthony Joshua he's more elusive (even when stood right in front of his opponent) but it isn't like Joshua is just a huge gorilla, he has plenty of skills of his own. Usyk's one deficiency is that he doesn't carry intimidating power even at Cruiserweight, and I believe Joshua would feel free to go about his business without needing to concern himself with what's coming back at him, and anybody who can't get AJ to be wary of their power is not going to keep him at bay for very long.

I open up two OP's so far today and 2 dumb comments by Jip. Watch Dwight Muhammad Quawi vs. Holyfield Fights and then you'll realize how stupid this one was and how ridiculous it is to make an assertion like this after watching this kid fight 2 times on TV.Jip wrote:I know you guys all think that only old school or old old school boxer can be atg or #1 ever in a division and boxer from 2000 till now are nothing more than good.

What is your rush? Your generation loves to anoint these grandiose types of statements about current fighters when they don't come anywhere close to earning it or proving it. Shows that your boxing intellect is really low. Extremely too low to be posting this much.

Exactly. Usyk a better boxer than aj. But aj just simply has a huge advantage in height reach punching power.candyslim wrote:Usyk is a marvellous Cruiserweight, superb technique, beautiful balance, excellent ring-generalship but is he the best ever? You bdont understand. It has nothing to do with favourite boxer.greg wrote:...ever, ever?threads like this usually crop up like mushrooms after a hard rain once the favourite boxer wins
It has something to do with recognizing greatness.
