The change from 15 to 12 rounds.
The change from 15 to 12 rounds.
Just a question really, when Boxing made the transition from 15 to 12 rounds, was there ever a fight limit of 13 proposed, in such a situation that whould determine a championship fight should it result in a draw? Fight it out in the extra round.
Re: The change from 15 to 12 rounds.
Aye, I remember Doug Dewitt doing that against someone. 13th round as a tiebreaker
Re: The change from 15 to 12 rounds.
If they could get the scores together very quickly after the 12th and immediately make it known that a 13th would be needed, that'd be a lot more satisfying than a draw for sure.
Re: The change from 15 to 12 rounds.
I'd like to see the scores go up electronically after every round... The judges would be under sharper scrutiny that way... Can you imagine scores going up for Mayweather after the 2nd and 3rd rounds??? ... You'd have a riot... The judges would behave themselves better if the scores went up within 20 seconds of the round ending... I've seen judges screw around and not put the score in til the rest period is more than half over.. They're obviously going back over the scorecard and calculating whatever -- or mulling it over too long.. You should know who won or lost when the bell rings

Open scoring is garbage. Starling/bumphus proved that long ago. I'm a broken record but the best way to tackle corruption is to find the incompetence first. To do that you have to give judges the best scenarios. In the back with ear plugs watching on a big screen TV with observers to make sure there is no collusion. Anyone who has sat ringside knows it's far inferior to TV.

Good start I think. Keep them well apart from each other. And use clean and knowledgeable judges and not what they got now. And select and pay them from an independent place, maybe the state boxing commission (not that that's necessarily clean either) and not connected with the promoters etc. Same with refs. And have a real legitimate review system so that if and when there is a decision that appears really egregious - like more than half of what you get now - the decision will actually be overturned by a review panel, and bad judges and refs will be blacklisted. There's so much that needs changing. Boxing is so bad now.

The best way to get rid of corrupt judges is have 4 judges and the referee score the fight, (5)
and like they do in some sports in the Olympics is get rid of the highest and lowest scores
that way if a judge favours one fighter over the other and his scores depict this his scores
would not be used in the result,
Example: Duran vs Leonard 1, Judges A 146-142 Duran, Judge B 147- 144 Duran,
Judge C 148-141 Leonard, . Judge D, 145-143 Leonard Ref. 149-140 Duran,
The scores used are Judges A B and D as Judges C and Ref, are way off.....
Also this way if a Judges Scores are not used in more than 3 fights in one month stand the prick down for 6 months.

I'm smashed, but I'd bet one of the judges had it 148-147 Duran.BIGDOUG58 wrote:The best way to get rid of corrupt judges is have 4 judges and the referee score the fight, (5)
