I think Wilder's power is getting some serious overating... yes he has a great KO percentage - but those days of 1 punch early KO's seem to have gone when he steps up and since he's been champion.

My issue with him is there's almost no skill to get the punches there. It's like he goes out and just throws till he lands and knows when he lands it'll be over. He won't last at the top level like that, though I do believe he has the power to be dangerous to any fighter in the division.

Obviously don't know the ins and outs but I would have thought Ortiz should have waited for the AJ fight - surely that would be more cash.

Just a week or so he was calling for AJ to be stripped if he didn't get a shot, so it seemed like he still wanted that fight. I'm a bit surprised that this came together rather than Ortiz waiting it out for Joshua.

He'd be waiting forever (which he can't afford to do at his age) and there's no guarantee it would happen. For instance, Joshua could beat Pulev and then go in a straight unification with Wilder or Parker/Fury with the WBA agreeing to it and screwing Ortiz over again. Or he goes straight into a unification after dropping the WBA belt, so Ortiz is left waiting around even longer and doesn't even get the payday at the end of it.

Or another scenario could be a non unification but with AJ dropping the belt and just fighting Haye for a lot more money. I think it would be silly for Ortiz to wait around for a fight they may never happen.

Even when it comes to major hitters, one punch KTFOs at championship level are fairly rare, and there are probably going to be fights where stubborn opponents go rounds.

No fighter today has hit ---> instant destruction power on any consistent basis, but Wilder can still seriously bang. It's why he's gotten this far despite some pretty glaring shortcomings...

Power is the only thing he has that puts him in the position he's in. If he didn't have the power Szpilka would've taken his title from him...hell he likely would've never won it in the first place. He's not that skilled of a boxer, and his defense leaves a lot to be desired. Exceptional power is the one thing that helps him get by. He's not able to score one punch KO's a lot because he's not very good, and his accuracy is sh*t.

Spilzka doesn't exactly have the greatest chin though.

Technically there is an abyss between the two, but Ortiz is near forty and this could be a problem for the cuban man.

Both are stunningly overrated... Wilder punches like a drunk windmill and Ortiz has looked like a 75 year old David Tua lately

Szpilka was Tyson Fury wannabie. We all saw what happened to Wlad against Fury. Wilder and Wlad are not classic boxers with combos so they will always struggle againist movers. It is because one two combo is easy to duck if you are mover. Wilder and Wlad mostly use only one two in safe positions
