Are you realizing this?
Re: Are you realizing this?
This match-up is nothing compared to SRL - Duran, SRR - Armstrong, Whitaker - Chavez, Hopkins - DLH, etc. Also, Donaire was #7 p4p at the time of the Rigondeaux fight. Also, the only reason they accumulated so many amateur golds is they stayed amateur into their mid 20's instead of turning pro after their first gold. Muhammad Ali could have racked-up 6 Olympic gold medals, and the only thing that stopped him was turning pro after winning the first one. Winning multiple amateur gold medals doesn't mean you're the best amateur ever, it means you're the biggest sandbagger ever.

No. He was around 3. In his prime. Having wins over name opponents.Lackeos wrote:This match-up is nothing compared to SRL - Duran, SRR - Armstrong, Whitaker - Chavez, Hopkins - DLH, etc. Also, Donaire was #7 p4p at the time of the Rigondeaux fight. They are both quality boxers for sure
The best quality fight I can think of was Leonard vs Hearns at 147

Yeah. Both prime. One of the hardest puncher ever against one of the most athletic boxer ever. This match up was phenomenal.Ossyrules wrote:They are both quality boxers for sure

Sad that calzaghe/jones never happened when joe was prime and 1 at sm and jones was prime and 1 at lh. This wouldve been an outstanding fight in terms of pure quality.

36 years ago today. Comparing rigos or Lomas offensive skills to hearns is something that should land you in a straight jacket. Or a self proclaimed expert.Ossyrules wrote:They are both quality boxers for sure

Jip - have a day off.
Saad, Lackeos - he's young.
Sure, I'm excited by Loma (particularly) and Rigo is a damn fine awkward fighter.
But, I can think of 150 fights since 1990 that are better.
Cuban normally win multiple gold medals (for obvious reasons). Yes, Olympic medalists do tend to be very good pro's, but there are exceptions e.g Audley Harrison, Henry Tillman, Solis, Tyrell Biggs.
I can think of a long list of top drawer boxers who didn't get Olympic medals and were all time greats.

I know he's a kid and his enthusiasm is contagious. I'd just wish he'd refrain from shit like randomly saying benitez lacked footwork. It's almost as annoying as it is ignorant.

Agree the match ups are nothing alike, just acknowledging rigo vs Loma will have some skills on showSaadOffTheDeck wrote:36 years ago today. And being as it was a best ever thread, I chipped in saying the Hearns v Leonard fight is just about the best quality fight I could think of

He will learn but he is enthusiastic. Can't be a bad thing.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I know he's a kid and his enthusiasm is contagious. I'd just wish he'd refrain from poo like randomly saying benitez lacked footwork. It's almost as annoying as it is ignorant.
For record, Benitez's footwork was great, but Pep was just amazing. Loved RJJ as well.

Then again, instead of becoming the best in the world at 17 benitez could have really done something as an amateur.Loki wrote:He will learn but he is enthusiastic. There are 100s of boxers that didn't go the Olympics - Calzaghe, Tyson, Tszyu, Marquez, Pacquiao...SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Then again, instead of becoming the best in the world at 17 benitez could have really done something as an amateur.Loki wrote:He will learn but he is enthusiastic. I'm not quite sure what his point is...

Wilfred was the world champion at a younger age than he would be allowed in the Olympics. Easily the most unbreakable record in boxing.

Hello. I have to agree with you.gilgamesh wrote:Every thing that happens in Boxing isn't "The Best" or "Most Amazing" ever Jip. The sport has a LONGGGGGGG and decorated history.
It's a good fight. I kinda doubt it'll feel as if anything truly historically significant has taken place after it's over.
