The lowest estimate I could find of attendence at the Johnson vrs Willard fight is in a book about the history of Cuban Basebal published in 2001 l which gave it as 12,000
American newspaers estimated it at 15,000.
The Havana Post estimated it at 32,000 ( which only 5,000 were Americans).
(probably a large number of that high figure may have been Cuban residents gathered to watching it from the Hillside,
were also another film bootleg version was filmed from using a telescopic lense by a Cuban filmaker,
who showed his version in the Cuban theaters a week before the official American-filmed ringside version.

MAYBE the religious types balked at the Sunday thing. - A prize fight on the Lord's day seems odd for a Catholic country.

APerno...you've done it again!!! … Conclusive proof that the temperature in Havana Cuba on the day of the Johnson-Willard fight was balmy and cool. This ends all speculation and outright lies and disinformation on the matter that has emanated for decades from Willard and his crew of disingenuous retrogrades.APerno wrote:
But this is the most interesting yet -- also from Arty Allen's book, Jess Willard, Heavyweight Champion - a footnote:

All we need now is Allen's source The Havana Daily Post from April 6th 1915 - I think I'll send this clip to the above 'stupid' websites. - Kudos to BoxRec for not buying the bull-shit. - Maybe we can get them to re-evaluate their remarks on the Louis-Davis fight.

Puts a damper on Kalan's assertion that "all the papers" said nothing landed, and Johnson gave his wife a signal, etc... The fact that Johnson's home city states it was on the level and Willard whipped him fair and square, is more than evidence enough to end all fairytales.
