I thought it was a fantastic effort and he landed the sharpest punches. I've a new found respect for Canelo, even though he clearly lost. He can improve in a rematch - but can GGG?
Canelo
Canelo
Didn't win, but stepped up in weight and fought a killer, an absolute machine with a cast iron jaw and the power that exceeds his weight class.

Re: Canelo
I just said in another thread that that scorecard has diverted attention from a good performance by him. He wasn't outclassed and he wasn't troubled ny the power. He fought very well. Sadly the result will be all people remember.
Re: Canelo
Exactly. GingerHead earned respect that he completely lost thanks to being gifted a draw.
Re: Canelo
Wasn't troubled by the power? Dude got rocked and was looking broken in the latter half of the fight. You fell for the hype.Covfefe wrote:I just said in another thread that that scorecard has diverted attention from a good performance by him. He wasn't outclassed and he wasn't troubled ny the power. Re: Canelo
I think Canelo can perform exactly the same in a rematch, and actually get the robbery to go completely his way next time. Doubtful that Golovkin can do any better than he did tonight, and Canelo always can relax, and know that he simply has to not get knocked out and he won't lose.

Re: Canelo
Um, Canelo was looking like he was going to get stopped. GGG doesn't need to change a thing. He won that fight and won it well. His jab is too much for Canelo.gilgamesh wrote:I think Canelo can perform exactly the same in a rematch, and actually get the robbery to go completely his way next time. Re: Canelo
Clearly very gifted in some areas. He'd be a monster with good stamina and workrate....

Don't talk shîtë! Canelo wasn't "rocked" and "looking broken" against GGG.Mexi-Box wrote:Wasn't troubled by the power? Dude got rocked and was looking broken in the latter half of the fight. I know he doesn't need to change anything to win...but I mean...clearly winning like he did tonight isn't gonna be enough. He's gotta win even more clearly somehow.Mexi-Box wrote:Um, Canelo was looking like he was going to get stopped. GGG doesn't need to change a thing. He won that fight and won it well. Re: Canelo
Mightve been my stream but I thought he looked slightly rocked in I believe the 8th or 9th....he clearly could handle the power though. Both guys have excellent chins.
Re: Canelo
Didn't step up in weight. Been draining for years. Didn't get KO'd, but I didn't expect him to. Clearly lost. Congrats on the Draw though.

What do you call getting pushed to the ropes and looking like a mess in the latter half of the fight?Enlightened-One wrote:Don't talk shîtë! Re: Canelo
i've gained respect for him leading up to the fight mainly because he took the fight earlier than i expected him to, and because he has more balls than Saunders.
And he did give it a good effort, even though he lost in my opinion, and the result was bs.
But it goes to show that Canelo, even at his peak, is not better than an aged version of Golovkin or any version of him.

Re: Canelo
Truth is, at this stage I think GGG fought the best fight he could possibly fight. Alvarez IMO can improve, there for if they have a rematch I think Canelo wins handedly and I honestly think GGG is ripe for the taking now. GGG should hang them up.

Re: Canelo
Canelo is a great fighter but I just can't like him because he has the judges in his pocket. Makes it hard to give him the credit he deserves.
Re: Canelo
Agree with original post. I think GGG was still at his peak in tonight fight, but maybe he will be not at his peak in next fights, 35 years. I was impressed with Canelo defense, even more when you cinsider who was standing in front of him. He surely wasnt rocked, he was faded in some rounds, but always catch breath and fought back. I like Canelo as a fighter and his boxing style is nice to watch, but whole this De la hoya/GB boxing/judges/money/fame around him is bad :( I dont think there will be a rematch, but i am definitely curious for next GGG and Canelo fights

Re: Canelo
It's a shame the joke scorecard detracts from his performance, from both their perforamnces. Byrd should be banned.
Re: Canelo
No but he was shook to his boots plenty of times. Golovkin never really caught him with a clean haymaker.ldlamb wrote:He never remotely looked like he was about to get stopped.....what hogwash.Mexi-Box wrote:Um, Canelo was looking like he was going to get stopped. Re: Canelo
It was golovkins fight
Re: Canelo
I don't get all this about how well Canelo fought - like he was the plucky underdog against the red hot favourite. It was a pick'em fight wasn't it? I was resolutely sat on fence for so long I've got splinters in my arse.
No he didn't put up a great fight, he was totally outclassed, it wasn't remotely close. I couldn't give Canelo a round until the last quarter of the fight, best I could do was give him a share of about three of the first nine.
It wasn't a poor fight by any means, but it wasn't the classic I was hoping for because it wasn't all that competitive. I thought Teddy Atlas' analogy of the log and the ocean was spot on as were the rest of his comments pretty much.

Re: Canelo
Byrd should indeed be banned but first of all she should be required to explain herself. I couldn't sleep at night if I turned in a scorecard so clearly born out of ineptitude or corruption.

Re: Canelo
The fight was highly competitive and some of the rounds were challenging to score, since some of them may have been determined purely on one's personal stylistic preference.candyslim wrote:[Canelo] didn't put up a great fight, he was totally outclassed, it wasn't remotely close.
There were rounds where the busier Golovkin threw a lot of speculative combos, which were less eye-catching and less efficient than the fire being returned by the composed and defensively more responsible Canelo.
So for me at least, some of the rounds were a classic case of quality versus quantity. Sometimes Canelo didn't throw enough - sometimes Golovkin threw too much.
I didn't see Golovkin or Canelo dominating or hurting their opponent at any stage during last night's fight.
