WHO WON? GOLOVKIN OR CANELO?
I had it for El Freckles 6-5-1.
Swept the first three with his eye-catching punches, next five Golovkin with his caveman-like pursuit and pressure. Ninth I couldn't separate them, perhaps on reflection GGG could have just shaded it which would have been a draw. Final three Canelo rallied to snatch the win.
I think Canelo squandered too many rounds laying on the ropes. If he can rectify that in a rematch he could win more decisively. Not easy because of Golovkin's power and the sort of aggressive stalking that hasn't been since since Tuan Jim had a Facebook.

Golovkin clear win. You've picked your winner before and can't move past that.

My honest reaction at the final bell was 114-114 but was half asleep watching it and gave Alvarez the closer rounds as knew the judges would
Re: WHO WON? GOLOVKIN OR CANELO?
Predictable card.
Unsurprisingly, the two posters who have so far acknowledged that they scored it for Canelo were the most outspoken ahead of time about him being levels above. EYE-CATCHING SHOTS BABY!
GGG clear for me, though it was a competitive bout. I actually think Canelo fought a very good fight considering his abilities...at this level I don't believe he's really capable of avoiding those long and frequent inactive spots.

Golovkin won that fight clearly. But 118-110 is a travesty of a scorecard for either man.

116-112 Golovkin
Re: WHO WON? GOLOVKIN OR CANELO?
Our Jeff from the Mail had it 118-110 to GGG, I'm not sure whether he has watched it in slow motion yet.

Re: WHO WON? GOLOVKIN OR CANELO?
115-113 GGG . . . . but that was watching it back after I already knew the result so I may have favoured Canelo in some of the closer rounds. Simply can't make a case for Golovkin losing the fight and how that judge can only give him two rounds is astonishing!
Re: WHO WON? GOLOVKIN OR CANELO?
2 or 6 points for GGG for me.
116-112 most likely.

I had it a moral victory for GGG merely making it into the sixth round
Sage critics gave me reason to expect he'd be stretched out on his back by the sixth round. And yet, somehow, he never looked close to getting stopped.
Remarkable, that he should upset the odds in such a way.

115-113 to GGG. And that was being generous to Canelo on at least 1 round.
After a few rounds. I knew GGG was never going to get dropped. He was absorbing the punches that did land on him. No flinch, just coming forward. Maybe if he used the jab a bit more. Regardless, it was a GGG win.

Re: WHO WON? GOLOVKIN OR CANELO?
Just watched it a second time with Russian (or Kazakh?) commentary and I arrived at 115-114 Canelo
On second viewing it looked even closer than I originally thought and I can easily appreciate the judges who scored it 114-114 and 115-113 GGG as some of the rounds were difficult to score with absolute certainty. I don't think it is quite the robbery that some are claiming it to be. I think a lot of people are angry with the Adelaide Byrd card and rightly so but that isn't Canelo's fault, its just poor or corrupt judging on her part.
The only answer is an immediate rematch

I suggest you watch the fight again or are u so pro canelo you can only see canelo in the ring?Tuan_Jim wrote:I had it for El Freckles 6-5-1.

Re: WHO WON? GOLOVKIN OR CANELO?
I had Golovkin 2 up but a draw or a couple of points either way and there's no real argument.
If the card for Canelo was closer then I don't think there would be much talk of anything other than 'I hope there's a rematch'.

I do think there's an element of personality bias - Golovkin is a very likeable sport whereas Canelo and De La Hoya are (understandably) perceived as a pair of bandits who were trying to snatch the title.
Re: WHO WON? GOLOVKIN OR CANELO?
I've said somewhere else that I had it 115-113 for Golovkin but felt I was being generous to Canelo.
