Arum: This is What They Get For Letting Byrd Do Canelo-Golovkin!

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum shook his head when Adalaide Byrd was assigned as one of the three official judges for last Saturday's middleweight mega-bout between Gennady Golovkin and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez - which took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

n the past, Top Rank has tried to remove Byrd from several of their past contests.

Last year, they tried removing Byrd from scoring the Vasyl Lomachenko-Nicholas Walters featherweight clash at the Cosmopolitan. The Nevada State Athletic Commission denied the request.

“We have a whole history with Adalaide Byrd, who I like very much. She’s a wonderful person, but her scorecards have been in many cases been off the wall,” said Arum to the Las Vegas Review Journal.

“The complaint [to remove her from some of our fights] wasn’t that she was against us or that she was prejudiced in any way. The complaint was she wasn’t a good judge, and the we thought, it wasn’t appropriate to have her because we didn’t have any confidence in her ability to judge.”

Despite Arum's complaints, Byrd was still given high profile assignments - including last weekend's controversial scoring of Canelo-Golovkin.

“This what they get,” Arum said about the Canelo-Golovkin controversy. “[Nevada Commission head Bob Bennett] had to know that she had some very questionable scorecards in the past. He had to know that because we told him.”

“It’s the arrogance that they know everything. They think that we are the peasants that care for nothing other than making a buck, and therefore, they’re not going to pay attention to anything we have to say.”

Tbh i think the NSAC has had it's time. Floyd is retired now and some of the biggest events in recent times have been stadium fights; Froch-Groves 2, Haye-Wlad, Wlad-AJ.

NSAC has had too many circuses now, Ward-Kov 1 & 2, Floyd-Pac, Floyd-McGregor, Canelo-GGG. It's time for promoters to turn their backs on Nevada for their biggest cards.

Yes, take boxing back to Madison Square Garden. The Barclays Center, another fantastic arena. Many bigger indoor arenas in the USA.

If only. Or at least not till GBP and their biggest draw Canelo is done. NSAC have looked crooked for decades, yet keep getting away with it.

Nothing gets changed, they ignore Arum, Montero and co. whilst laughing at the rest of us and keep collecting the money. Its almost a perfect racket apart from a few pesky journalists, but they can usually be bought.

Michael Montero had better start sleeping with one eye open. Or leave some space in his garage for a Ferrari.

Too much casino money to turn a back to it. That's part of the reason why boxing is so dead here. Promoters haven't had to work for 30 years.

The Nevada Wada lab is even worse. I still wonder why Wilder needs this lab so much and why he waited to sign the contract with Ortiz till this lab their suspension was over. Are they doing the Povetkin trick all over again? Just to avoid a big fight like Ortiz and then fight a bum anyway?
