Time to return to 15 rounds for World Titles?

OK sober Grant here, back in the day even state titles were 15 rounds Paul Ferrari was fighting 20 plus 15 round fights, I agree too many.
But now where minor titles are over 10 rounds and regional and all other titles over 12, Is it time to make world titles 15 rounds again?
I mean it is a step up and a test of stamina, skill and training, as I think it should be.
Don't get me wrong I don't want to see people get hurt but seeing a fighter just as fresh after 12 rounds as they were in the first well almost, is not a test IMO.
I don't believe the boxing organisations lowered the rounds out of health/safety reasons, F%^ck if you want to take safety into account there would be no fights. It was for TV.

If guys are still fresh after 12 rounds i think it can be attributed to their good fitness and/or an opponent that hasnt troubled them enough to push them physically. If the latter is the case then there is really no need to put that opponent through three more rounfs of punishment.

On the domestic level i think a lot of our local guys already have stamina issues.

15 rounders were scrapped after Ray Manici's Korean opponent passed away from injuries sustained during their Lw title fight. The Korea was just not the type to give up and took quite a beating before being stopped in the 14th. Real unfortunate event and an incredibly bad look for the sport at that time.

I should have clarified and said scrapped by the WBC, but you are indeed correct

I still think match making is a far bigger problem than the number of rounds fought in boxing. Especially in the interest of fighters health. They wont go back to 15 rounds, but hypothetically if they did it would only shine a bigger spot light on the issues with matchmaking.

Yeah I know, I've just always wanted to see 'em return because some of my favorite fighters were 15 round type fighters. Jose Luis Castillo is a good example, he'd have been even more accomplished I think in an era where 15 rounders were allowed. He got stronger as the fight went on.

His "close" fight with Joel Casamayor wouldn't have been close at all if there'd been 3 more rounds to go. The way he was working him over in the 12th he'd have probably stopped him.

Remembering fights like Holyfield vs Qawi, Holmes vs Norton and even Duran vs Leonard, I'd be happy to agree to see 15 round fights make a solid return to the world level.

But realistically, the dangers those extra 3 rounds expose the boxers to are just too big a risk to consider a return to the full 15 rounds. a champion level fight is a life changing event and you can push your own body past it's breaking point for a time as most did in 15 round fights.
After 12 rounds of a hard, fast paced fight - dehydration is already taking a strong effect, accumulated damage to the brain is building up, muscular or skeletal damage is increased and it all adds to 15 rounds being too dangerous.
Everyone loves a hard fought championship fight but no-one want's to see one of the men or women who fought for that title be rushed into hospital and face an early retirement or worse due to the injuries they've suffered.
