I think groves would beat the British level brothers easily enough

thats all true- Smith with the plodding feet and no-head-movement-Gallagher-trademark-'defence', would be very hittable from the outside.

however I could see Smith walking Groves to the ropes, much more than Gutknecht last night, and when he does he is much more effective at close raneg than Gutknecht was (or than Groves would be)

like I say I would really want Groves to win, but some of the old bad signs came out in Groves last night, when he was under the tiny bit of pressure Gutknecht put him under, and I'm fairly sure Smith would apply a lot more pressure

I wanted to vote draw but it's not a bloody option so picked Groves (even though I have it about even) & it turns out we all do

92 votes each. Pretty remarkable.

a 50/50 fight, Hearn will steer well clear of this one for Smith then...

Groves can box on the back foot has a solid jab and can go twelve rounds no problem. That gives him this fight for me

Really interesting fight.

Callum seems a bit slow and plodding to me, and he doesn't move his head as much as he should. GG has the movement, speed, and jab to exploit Smith's shorcomings, but how would GG deal with the power and pressure? I can see it going either way and hope it happens.

At the moment, i'd still favour Groves. He's got the experience of being in the rink with very good fighters in the division.

And truthfully, I don't think that Calum has surpassed him yet. He still has a long way to go.

Seems to be a case of which Groves turns up, the guy who can do pretty much all you need to have been a world champion already or the guy who switches between good and poor in the same fight.

Groves for me. Best chance Smith has is if Groves gasses at approx round 8 or 9.

Groves would be unbeatable in Prizefighter.

Smith need to beat Dirrell first before this can be discussed.

It's much more likely we will get Degale v Groves first.

As poor as smith looked on Saturday night I still think its a good fight. Always favored groves as I always felt smith is slightly over rated. The way he unraveled once the swede started popping out the jab would also weigh heavily in Groves favor as he has a great jab when he remember's to use it. All that been said, Smith is still big, powerful, well schooled, decent engine and this is groves we are talking about - he doesn't like to do it the easy way no matter who he's fighting! Groves points after a cracking scrap with a knockdown apiece.

If this fight happened soon or even if the pair meet in the 'super series' they're both taking part in I see Smith being the more likely winner.

Right now I just don't think Groves is mentally strong enough to hold onto his title, it seems like he's got what he wanted - to be the world champion. When you look at how he talks in his tone of voice, his body language and what his plans are then it all seems like he isn't interested. As soon as he mentioned retirement, as far as I'm concerned he's done.

When you look at Smith, he gave up a chance at the vacant WBC belt to go for a chance at not only the WBA world champion but the IBO champion as well and challenge himself against other up and coming or future/former world contenders, that's a world champion mind-set in the making.
Groves on the other hand seems to want an easier route to the final and expects to walk it easily to the end of the series, I for one hope he is in for a rude awakening.

So Smith has shown championship meddle by entering into the same tournament that groves has entered but George is looking for an easy ride?

I have now changed my mind.

Groves in tip top shape and not chinny could pose a lot of problems for Smith.

I've also changed my mind after Groves finally getting his belt and Smith looking bang average on Sat. Groves by late KO.

I still fancy Smith.

Groves has had a really tough career physically and mentally and I think he might be on the slide a bit.

He will have success against Smith (unless he learns to move his head) but I see Smith outworking him to a close Points win.

Yeah, seems as though Smith has stagnated a bit. Inactivity and a lack of real fights can't have helped. Groves has always been confident but I think finally winning a title might give him even more confidence, like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders.

That's a good point about Groves to be fair. The potential Eubank fight could well be physically and mentally gruelling as well. Smith definitely has the easier side of the draw.
