Dereck Chisora returns to action in Liverpool this month after signing for Matchroom Boxing.
Dereck Chisora is targeting a rematch with heavyweight rival Dillian Whyte after signing a promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing.
'Del Boy' has signed with promoter Eddie Hearn and will return to action on the Paul Butler-Stuart Hall undercard in Liverpool on September 30, live on Sky Sports.
Chisora has not fought since suffering a split-decision loss to Whyte last December and hopes to boost his ranking by winning a European title in November before securing a second fight with 'The Body Snatcher.'
"I'm looking forward to getting back in the ring after a frustrating period of injury, starting in Liverpool next Saturday," said Chisora.
"Then we are going to win the European title in November, and then I'm going to punish that punk Dillian Whyte and move on to a shot at the world title."
Hearn believes Chisora can force a return fight with Whyte, if he picks up two victories before the end of the year.
"I'm pleased to welcome Dereck to the team and look forward to being involved in some big fights with him over the next year," said Hearn.
"You know what you are going to get with 'Del Boy', plenty of drama and a load of heart. He will return to action in Liverpool and challenge for the European title in November.
"We will work towards a Whyte rematch for early next year. It's a fight that I think boxing needs to see again."
A busy undercard at the Echo Arena will see home favourite Rocky Fielding defend his British super-middleweight title for the first time against Scotsman David Brophy, who puts his Commonwealth belt on the line.

Thought he had just signed with Goodwin, about 2/3 weeks ago?

Yeh, he re-signed with Goodwin, I believe he's a manager though. He left Sauerland, so he was without a promoter.MattCoke wrote:Thought he had just signed with Goodwin, about 2/3 weeks ago?

Whyte obviously not playing ball with the rematch that Eddie wants, so he'll be fighting absolute nobodies in front of 100 people while Chisora will be given all the exposure and manuevered into a decent ranking.
Eddie taking a leaf out of Arum's book it seems.

They are lining up Whyte-Chisora II for February next year.
Makes sense IMO, as it means all the focus will be on the AJ fight, they can see how Wilder-Ortiz pans out, and they can cement themselves at number 2 / 3 in the WBC rankings. Or alternatively, if Parker wins they could move in that direction depending on whether Bellew beats Haye again.
Hearn is playing the long game, and it wouldnt be shocking at all if the winner of Chisora-Whyte II is a world champion by June 2018.
