Who else

Post by coneye »

Who else , thinks its a bit early for Hughie to be fighting for a world tile , i'm talking age here ,, The documented history of health problems , was a good enough reson for him to be fighting so so opponents , Now he's apparantly over them , is it to soon has he been given enough time to mature physicly , and get hard fights and experience under his belt , Because to be honest theres not a lot around at the moment and the division will probably be worse in 4-6 years or so , hanging back would'nt really harm him , , but then again losing at this stage would'nt kill his carreer either ,,, THOUGHTS

Joshua had never fought anyone remotely world class before Klitschow.
If you are good enough you are old enough, also how many good gatekeepers are out there to bring Hughie along?

Yeah, I think that is all valid and because he is not a charasimatic ticket seller - the good gatekeepers will not fight him because they still feel they might get the big money fight themselves. Can anyone seriously think that Dillon Whyte, Derek Chisora or Christian Hammer would risk their ranking against Hughie?

Hughie has had top class sparring and full training camps from day one. More than Parker!

Would he also possibly lose to that standard of gate keeper.
I'd back Hughie against any of these names but not heavily.
I suppose that is what makes the OPs question so interesting, we really dont know what level Hughie is at....

fornicate it let's just throw him in and find out

He's obviously a good way off his peak, but I wouldn't call it too early, because if he can be a top heavyweight he can come back better from a loss at this stage, and if not, well *shrugs*

We'll find out on Saturday I suppose. I can see him being out hustled by Parker over the distance but if he goes in and boxes his head off then the gambles paid off. Parker isn't exactly the cream of the crop and is the weakest of the champions IMO so why not just go for it?

If you listen to big fans of the Fury's, you will hear about this lad being ready for someone like Parker. As has been said, he's a weak champ in comparison, and was questionable in his last few fights, notably the title fight.

I'm of the opinion Parker should be the aggressor and bully him but it's easier said than done. Hughie's ring rust and lack of good opponents for so long is my doubt, however being a Fury seems to carry some weight, he's sacrificed his social life for this, he wants it more than Tyson ever did. Let's just see Saturday what the craic is, whether we should be making a fuss over one of these lads or not.

Parker points for me, but I hope Hughie becomes gravy and schools him.

I see your rationale but wonder if Mick could or would pay for the kind of opponents that would improve Hughie's ring savvy as cash ain't coming through the figurative turnstiles to fund it. So maybe the reasoning is to go for broke to get a belt on a 40-60 chance and seek to cash out if AJ (or failing that Wilder) wants to unify.

What, the same Hughie who ducked Whyte because they were friends? Guarantee that both Chisora and Whyte would fight Hughie.

At 23 it is fairly easy to comeback from a world title loss, Charlie Edwards being a great example of recent times. In fact I think the landscape is changing in general when it comes to the highly sought after '0' on the record - which is great for us boxing fans.

It's hard to say if it's too early or not is yet, I don't think Fury is the favourite in this fight by a long margin but he does have the home field advantage and he is still improving.
It's a big risk going for a world title this way but it is a good test for him and if he puts in a strong performance even if he loses it'll only benefit him in the long run.

If he wins he is in with the other world champions and the world is open to him, if he loses and does well, then he proves he can stand with the best and can easily make a comeback using any number of Title routes he could pick from (Commonwealth, European, British, Irish?).
