I'm a little punchy now so I can't remember if it was Lamotta or Gene Fulmer who told the joke about fighting Ray Robinson. I've seen them both speak at boxing events.
Back in the day, boxers wore either black or white trunks. The A side boxer or champ would have the 1st choice. Since it was either Fulmer or Lamotta who was the champ at the time, he said he wanted to wear white trunks since he knew that's what Robinson like. He normally didn't care what color he wore. When he got in the ring and looked over at Robinson, he had white trunks on so he called the ref over and said "Robinson has white trunks on. How are they going to tell us apart?" It was funny at the time.
RIP Champ.

95 is a great age for a guy who got his head bashed in for a living.

It's actually incredible that he reached the age of 95 considering the amount of punishment he took during his career. RIP Champ.

I like the one where he said after fighting Sugar Ray Robinson 6 times that he fought him so many times he probably has diabetes.

I thought the same thing. Surprised he didn't have dementia.

A legend who connected us to the 1940's and 50's. A man who fought the man considered to be the greatest boxer in history and gave him hell.

Rest in peace Champion.
