Jorge Linares vs Luke Campbell

Post by diddy »

Jorge vs the White 2 Live Crew lead man.

How do we rate Campbell's chances fighting Linares outside of England? I don't rate them very well at all.

He has height, length and power at a lower level. I doubt he has much chance v the current Linares but he does have three stoppage losses to similar types of fighters.

I need to watch some Campbell footage.

Linares got caught in Rd 1 and 2 vs Sergio Thompson and JC Salgado 6 and 8 yrs ago. His chin has held up since. His other loss to DeMarco Linares was dominating and got stopped in Rd11 on a cut that was opened by a headclash.

I suppose Campbell could cut him or somehow catch him dry early, but in regards to actually legitimately outboxing him - that's not happening. He needs something fluky. I've seen nothing from Luke Campbell that suggests he can knock out Linares in the first round before he settles in.

Sadly I think Linares is going to be too much for Luke.
I've been a Campbell fan since the Olympics, but the transition to the pro scene has been stuttering to be fair.
I was surprised when this fight was announced because it was just after Linares dominated Crolla and my immediate thought was too much too soon for Luke. That thought hasn't changed.
If he took a few more B level fights and won them, then maybe OK. But not Linares, not now. Linares has that vibe about him at the moment, he is on a roll and it will take someone like Davis or Easter Jr to stop that roll, and unfortunately not Luke Campbell*

*I'll be cheering him on regardless :verysad:

Linares is 32, but a shop-worn 32. He's been carefully matched the past 3-4 years. Campbell is in his prime and appears to be physically bigger. He might be catching Linares at just the right time. In order for Campbell to win, he must impose his size early.

Linares is the favorite for a good reason. But Campbell was a very good am (as everyone including the books knows) and is only improving. I personally can throw out the Mendy fight. I have a position on Campbell a +300. But only because it's +300. Keep up the threads diddy, especially for wagering talk.
