Has that logic ever transpired in boxing?

Floyd showed McGregor very little respect and pretty much stayed within punching range throughout, having established that McGregor didn't have the ability to plant his feet and throw punches with any weight behind them. Not something he could do against Canelo.

McGregor would need to work on his basic drills and footwork before he could compete against even a national level fighter.

No disrespect to McGregor, but the fight just highlighted the differences in the sport and the additional skills fighters would need to learn in order to transcend in either direction.

It does 99% of the time. Otherwise there would not be levels.

I'm being pedantic here cos I know the real point you are making. I actually think though that Floyd showed McGregor lots of respect. He actually figured out a gameplan (as simple as it sounds) to beat a guy used to fighting for only 25 minutes of little intensity... let the bugger punch himself out by staying in his range.

Floyd could have beaten him any way he wanted to I am sure, but I thought the fact he really considered what would probably be McGregor's biggest weakness for me, showcased a fair amount of respect and thought.

I have had a night to sleep on this.......

When you think about it this could be a good match up, and us Boxing fans may not want to overlook McGregor and here are a few reasons why

1.Winning Rounds. Connor won more rounds against Floyd than Canelo did. That's a FACT
2. Unorthodox. Connor will be very awkward , his style will be like no one Canelo has ever faced. Look what he did in the gym to Paulie
3.POWER!! We have seen it in the Octagon, He has a very powerful back hand ( I know we didn't see this against Floyd but styles make fights and I think Canelo being Mexican will insure an all out WAR! )
4. Great support. Has Canelo ever come up against the fighting Irish??? I think not
5. Time. McGregor did fantastic against Floyd in what was only his first pro fight, he will have come on a lot since then.
6. Mind Games, Connor is the best at the mind games. Canelo will not know what has hit him when Connor turns up to the presser wearing Gucci and giving it all the swagger, The fight could potentially be won before the first bell.
