Thoughts on Matthew Macklin (and Jamie Moore)

I personally think Macklin is too compact and strong for a recently fragile-looking Jaime Moore.
I think the fact Macklin has started to make strides of late is that in the first place he was brought into the pro game a bit too early and hadnt really matured physically. He has also gone through a few managers and trainers during his short career but seems to be really benefitting from his work with Billy Graham and the lads who train there.
Should be a really good fight.

I'm really looking forward to this one, the styles 'should' gel nicely and make for a great spectacle
I haven't seen as much of Macklin as I'd like, but he's been consistently getting rave reviews and he's put a nice run of KO's together since moving to Billys gym (5 out of 6), so he looks to be hitting hard and we know that Moore can be hurt.
I'm biassed being a midlander, but I fancy Macklins chances in this one

Moore is on the frindges of world class, he should be stepping up the opposition rather than taking another hiding to nothing opponent. If he stays motivated though he'll knock Macklin out within 5 rounds.
the bookies have priced this up 5/6-5/6 as a pick em contest, thats an insult to Moore given his experience. First step up in class for Macklin, he'll get knocked out.

No it isnt. The bookies dont often get things wrong. Moore despite being champion and having more experience, has looked vulnerable in more recent times. Whereas during the same period Macklin has been looking very good, and has been improving.fatman wrote:the bookies have priced this up 5/6-5/6 as a pick em contest, thats an insult to Moore given his experience.
If anything the betting reflects the recent form of both fighters.

Have you ever seen Macklin box fatman???!! You are looking for clips of him boxing on another board?..fatman wrote:Moore is on the frindges of world class, he should be stepping up the opposition rather than taking another hiding to nothing opponent. If you are on the fringes of world class, you dont go life n death with Michael Jones, in my opinion.

Yeah i agree with u, but i feel that Moore lost his discipline v Jones, i'm a scouser and after what Jones done in there first match (celebrated his DQ victory like he's just won a title) even i wanted to see Jones destroyed.TerribleTerry wrote:Have you ever seen Macklin box fatman???!! Moore has good timing and throws classy shots, his loss to Dixon came when he was a kid, Duran loss had excusses. I believe that this fight comes way to soon for Macklin, havent seen much of him live, but i've seen him and read reports on him & this fight is a big step up. Do you think he has a good chin? i wanted to see a little more of him to assess his chin, he's been in with bigger men than Moore, so i'm not sure if Moore will KO him or Outpoint him

Fair enough mate - I am hoping that Macklin will surprise alot of people with his development in recent times.fatman wrote: Yeah i agree with u, but i feel that Moore lost his discipline v Jones, i'm a scouser and after what Jones done in there first match (celebrated his DQ victory like he's just won a title) even i wanted to see Jones destroyed.

I genuinely give him a shot against Moore, although Jamie is a first rate British champ. Its a hell of a fight and I wouldnt be surprised if it was a Fight of the Year candidate.
For the neutral it should be a real treat.

I'm going for Moore on points here, Macklin has improved in the last year or so, and he always stands a chance of catching Moore early and getting the KO, but Moore I think will box more in this fight instead of going into a tear up. I can see the fight being even for the first 6-7 rounds before Moores better boxing pulling him away to a points win.
I make it 55/45 in Moore's favour by virtue of his experience and proven track record in coming back from the brink. He may well need to come back from some rough patches again against Macklin, but I back Moore to retain the title.
Some may scoff at the way Moore has stayed with his British title but I credit the man highly for taking on all comers and defending the Lonsdale belt with pride.

He was almost 23 and it was his 13th fight. If you're going to hold up Macklin's only defeat to Facey as relevant to this fight, you need to explain why Moore's loss then can be excused on grounds of youth, but Macklin's loss to Facey when he was only 21 and in only his 10th fight can't. Macklin's not lost since then, and won all but one by KO, including the Russian champ who was 17 and 1.fatman wrote: Moore has good timing and throws classy shots, his loss to Dixon came when he was a kid,

Dara is right - Macklin is a wholly different fighter to the confused, slow footed boxer who lost to Facey.Dara wrote:He was almost 23 and it was his 13th fight. His progress since settling down at the Phoenix has been phenominal.
Regular sparring with Ricky Hatton means you either improve quickly or go home bloody and bruised every night.

Will be interesting how Macklin will react if the fight goes beyond 6/7 rounds, Macklin has been blowing them away early in his last few fights, so will he start blowing in the later rounds if he's been loading up his punches early.
Moore has gone the 12 rounds before, and looked effective in the late rounds as well, so he knows he can do the distance.
Still Moore on points for me.

Fair point. Macklin's staying power is really untested: the Facey fight is the only time he's had more than 6 rounds. If it gets as far as the 12th, Moore would be favourite on points. So betting on Macklin you're either hoping he'll blow Moore away early on (and encouragingly, all 3 of Moore's defeats have been early), or it's a bit like betting on a horse who has never run more than a mile for the Derby.topper123 wrote:Will be interesting how Macklin will react if the fight goes beyond 6/7 rounds, Macklin has been blowing them away early in his last few fights, so will he start blowing in the later rounds if he's been loading up his punches early.
