**UPDATE** Gervonta Davis Facing First Degree Aggravated Assault Charge
According to the Baltimore Fish Bowl, former world champion Gervonta Davis (19-0, 18 KOs) is facing a complaint of first-degree aggravated assault.
The paper cites Maryland court records, stating that an incident took place on August 1, but no details were available as to what took place or who was assaulted.
Davis, 22, made an appearance on the assault complaint on September 19 on a warrant, and he was released after posting a $100,000 unsecured bond - according to court records. He is scheduled to appear back in court on October 19.
It seems that court records also show two active cases for traffic stops, one in Baltimore County in April and another in Howard County in August.
According to Baltimore Press Box, Davis was cited with going 80 mph in a 55 mph zone in Baltimore County. In the Howard County stop, he was cited for following too close and driving on a suspended license.
Davis has had a rocky year. In January, he captured the International Boxing Federation lightweight title by knocking out Jose Pedraza in the seventh round. Then in May, Davis successfully defended his title with a third-round knockout of Liam Walsh in London.

I agree he's much better. I see him on Instagram driving around rapping out his window, shouting a lot of bullshit with his buddies. He thinks he's Tupac

I'm pulling for him. I'm from Baltimore city, that dude is from the deepest Baltimore hoods. Among the toughest spots in the world. It's an adjustment being in the real world.Tomasino wrote:SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Much better fighter.Ruthless-RKO wrote:Adrien Broner 2.0

I hope he gets on top of it and we see him in the big fights. He did a story the other day on Instagram and was down at the orphanage where he was brought up. In a Rolls Royce

I hope that he pulls it together and takes advantage of his opportunities. The odds are pretty stacked against him but the opportunity is there.
From the selfish perspective, I love his boxing style when he is on task.

Much better fighter. Though Broner is a very consistent fighter, if he gets that from him he'll be ok.Ossyrules wrote:Broner 2.0

He could be better, but looked poor last outing imo. Just don't want him to go down the road broner has of wasted talent and not taking the sport seriously enoughSaadOffTheDeck wrote:Much better fighter. I don't think broner wasted talent, he was just overrated. Definitely agree that following his path is a bad one. I thought he looked fine, past losing his belt on the scales.Ossyrules wrote:He could be better, but looked poor last outing imo. You can't get out of the hood if you bring the hood with you.
Generally it's the hangers on that make the trouble.
I hope he stays out of jail. His manager should be educating him better. A life coach. Or maybe he should meet one of the many many boxers that ended up broke and in jail. Scared straight.

Fair response. Thought his last fight was a disjointed performance personally thoughSaadOffTheDeck wrote:I don't think broner wasted talent, he was just overrated. He looked almost disinterested. The opponent seemed pretty tough though our experts proclamation about gervontas atg power is one of his worst. Long term you have to worry about his size. He moved up from feather just for the title shot and he's already heading to lightweight. A young man from extreme poverty getting checks for hundreds of thousands is tough to manage. I'm cheering for him, but not full of optimism.

Hopefully it's a one-off thing, and not the start of things to come. Always a shame when someone with a lot of potential pisses it away.

Not just coming from the hood, but being a tiny dude it's easy to expect a short fuse. You can tell when he gets hit that he's a Pitbull. Hard to imagine much back and forth if he feels challenged.

Guy probably told him to quit duckin' Lomachenko, and Davis responded Baltimore-style.

Tremendous future if he can muster some self-discipline. It would be a shame to see yet another potentially stellar career derailed by the thug life, but it goes with the territory. Like many boxers from the ghetto, Davis would be fighting in the streets if it wasnt for the sweet science.gilgamesh wrote:Hopefully it's a one-off thing, and not the start of things to come. Hope he can turn it around!!

He clearly has a lot of daemons.
Re: Gervonta Davis Facing First Degree Aggravated Assault Charge
I think Davis has a hell of a lot of potential.
His "home boys" who aren't boxers are jealous and want to bring back down into the hole that they're in and neither Davis nor his buddies consciously realize that.

Not just boxers, but a lot of rich athletes are... They drive like maniacs because they like to get where they're going -- and their cars are new, beautiful, and powerful.. Many aren't very mature or had poor parenting.. They've also watched a lot of movies where one of the themes is driving like a maniac.. Another constant theme in movies is beating the crap out of people you disagree with in vicious street fights -- but apparently with no consequences.crow wrote:Why are boxers such terrible drivers ?
I grew up on Westerns.. Constant fist fights in the movies.. Constant gun fights followed by fist fights. No legal consequences ever for punching people out.. You think there weren't a lot of fist fights among kids in the 1950's and 60's??? Their heroes on TV got into fist fights in every episode.. Cars weren't nearly as powerful as today, and kids couldn't afford a Vet -- but we drove like maniacs when there weren't any cops around.. Five kids I went to school with died in their teens or early 20's in auto accidents. All guys. Girls didn't drive like that because they didn't have those role models.
