I'd agree with that. But JC1, AW2 & RJJ3.
Rjj didn't stay at super-middleweight long enough to justify being ranked higher than the other two

What can be said about that?
He always had every judge paid off despite being a ZERO draw.

I was never a Ward fan until the Kessler fight.
Kessler was a top fighter and Ward clearly a level higher.
IMO, he looked more impressive than Calzaghe two years earlier.
Then came the hate.
Ward went from being ignored to the #1 enemy of the sport.
Dirty. Boring. Cheater. Dull.
All from fans who couldn't get enough of:
Mayorga, Mayweather, Broner, Fury, McGegregor ... and other WWE character style clowns.
Not one judge even scored a fight a draw.
For a non-draw. Against guys who could have been/or were big draws.
Amazing.![]()

Boring and dull are the same thing.
theres no doubting wards ability though
boring referred to criticisms of in ring entertainment,
dull referred to criticisms of his character outside the ring,
dirty refers to things he was accused of doing in the ring,
cheater refers to the allegations of PED use, judge/scoring fixing, etc.
All separate things right?
You're too stupid to think.
So you'd rather criticize immediately.

Prime for Prime I think Ward beats RJJ and Calzaghe. Ward would outmaneuver and annoy the #hit out of RJJ and Zaghe.

Ward would give Jones a ton of trouble. 50/50 fight for me. I'd pick calzaghe over ward.

Hopkins chased the RJJ rematch because he figured Roy out in their first fight.Ossyrules wrote:You are joking! Roy absolutely outclasses ward at his bestapollo creed wrote:Prime for Prime I think Ward beats RJJ and Calzaghe. Ward would outmaneuver and annoy the #hit out of RJJ and Zaghe.

He was right that RJJ didn't change, but was just athletically superior with special movement.
Prime RJJ beats almost every fighter in their first encounter.
Ward, Hopkins and other ATG type fighters could win the rematch.
Joe is a level below in my opinion. But he was superior to the average fighter. Too fluid and active.

BI is probably one of the most knowledgeable posters here IIRC he has sparred with quite a few top fighters.Ossyrules wrote:You make jip look knowledgeable

Ward is legit talent as much anyone hates to admit it. He is the perfect example of a cerebral fighter who also has a lot of heart. These two particular important traits is what made him win everyone of his fights without having an exceptional skillset or power.
I suspect this isn't the last time we see him, but if it is I think he is definitely a Hall of Famer and probably the top super middleweight in history along with Calzaghe.

His boring style had far more to do with his lack of popularity than anything else.Kalan wrote:Ward is a piece of shiit... a cheating bastard who's running from a very tough division that would give him a number of bad losses... Ward traumatized Cobra Froch in that fight.

Ward was a good fighter but in my opinon not on quiet on same level as Hagler, Leonard, Holyfield, Duran, Tyson, Whitaker, RJJ , I think Mosley and De La hoya as good if not better..apollo creed wrote:Ward was a master of his game. He beat top notch fighters at the peak of their game like Kessler, Abraham, Froch, Dawson and Kovalev. Ward has retired like a true king from this sport! Undefeated, young, healthy and after he beat the man from his division! Well done champ!![]()

I'm not sure he even beats prime Calzaghe
So Ward was good but not "Ward was one of most complete and versatille fighters that boxing gave!"

Gold medal in the Olympics and undefeated since he was 12 years old. His trophy case is unlike anyone that has come along. I think that he will definitely be considered a top 20 fighter when history is written. If not, he'll be close.Ossyrules wrote:His record is far far too light to be in the top 20 all time. Andre is unlike these other great fighters that only retire to take a few years off before coming back. It doesn't appear he's doing this to avoid mandatory defenses. I think he's going to stay retired and good for him.

Pro boxing, there is 100% more than 19 boxers that will be above him. He's not even close to being in that conversation

Ward has accomplished all in boxing as amateur and pro. He retired undefeated at 33 y/o , like a boss!

Top 20 of all time? You've got to be kidding. He won't be close. History has already been written for Ward.caldo2025 wrote:Gold medal in the Olympics and undefeated since he was 12 years old. ..no that it matters but wasn't his amateur career record: 115-5?
Re: Ward was one of most complete and versatille fighters that boxing gave!
I think Lomachenko's amateur record is a lot better: 396-1 with the one loss avenged.greg wrote:..no that it matters but wasn't his amateur career record: 115-5?
Re: Ward was one of most complete and versatille fighters that boxing gave!
I don't mark him top 20 of my own lifetime, much less all time.
