Tom Loefller: 'Golovkin wants is to face Canelo directly'

Post by apollo creed »

"We expect the negotiations to go better [that the first time], because Canelo has already fought 12 rounds with Gennady. The box office will be the third most successful in boxing history (in Las Vegas), the best event after a fight involving Floyd Mayweather, and in pay-per-event they did well, the two surely got their bigger purses and also the fans want to see more of this combination," said Loeffler to ESPN Deportes.

"We will start the discussions tomorrow (Friday). Obviously there are options but what Golovkin wants is to face Canelo directly, it was his first big purse and it is his priority, the rematch. His legacy will be at stake, with this fight reaching 19 successful defenses, a lot of people believe he won the fight and this will mark his career. We credit Canelo for taking the fight, but we think he beat him well, so we will pursue the rematch and if he beats Canelo - then he will tie the 20 middleweight defense record of Bernard Hopkins and that would be something historical."

"We think we won, HBO had it right, eight rounds to four, the team is happy for the performance, Abel is happy, he thinks we won. Unfortunately the judges did not see it that way. Gennady wants the rematch as soon as possible, we do not want to wait too long. Canelo wants to fight in May, we hope to reach an agreement and GGG is willing to wait."
@ BS

All Golovkin has to do is wait as much as it takes till Canelo wants the rematch. LOL

Golovkin would probably stay in the gym training and hoping Canelo wants the rematch, meanwhile GGG would probably vacate his straps or be stripped. Golovkin and his team don't want to lose that fat payday!

What would you do?

If you would not pursue the greatest prize, it is a good reason you aren't in the game.

Belts only collect dust and after you retire they can't pay your bills. But I'd love to see Saunders getting stopped and dispossessed of that wbo belt.

Golovkin has to go on a PR campaign and ridicule and humilate Tomato Can Ellow. Simple as that. Go to Mexico and mock the Pollo on Mexican TV.

I don't understand what GGG's team will do if Canelo wants an easy fight in May ? I know they don't want to ruin the momentum and the hype of the first fight outcome, to build up the hype for the rematch but Golovkin will have to fight his mandatories unless he's gonna wait another year and maybe have a soft fight meantime.

What!? This was the 3rd biggest fight in history trailing only to May-Pac & May-Mac?

I have a hard time believing that.

This is a very big decision for Canelo and Golden Boy. My feeling is that they hope that GGG takes a fight before the end of the year and loses so that the rematch would lose luster and they can fight someone else. But if Canelo does not elect to accept a rematch in his next fight, my hope is that Mexican fans never leave his ass alone. It can't be fun being a coward in Mexico as a boxer...That must not be a good time.

They would wait till Sept 2018. Golovkin would slow down visible in one year. Canelo is in his prime and he's getting better. Also I think Canelo would probably fight Saunders for the wbo title in May.

Have a rematch, but not in Las Vegas, and insist on drug testing before and after the fight.

I think Europe being a fairer choice but the promoters won't go along with it..drug testing is certainly a must..
