So what will GGG do ? Unify, Vacate, Wait for rematch, have soft fights ??
I read that Golovkin would like to fight in February or March but against who ? I assume that Charllo, Jacobs or Derev would be out of the question but would the abc orgs let GGG have voluntary defenses till Canelo agrees on the rematch ??
Re: So what will GGG do ? Unify, Vacate, Wait for rematch, have soft fights ??
Wait for a rematch (next May) in all likelihood unfortunately, I'd prefer he fight Cotto or Saunders in December or January, but I don't look for it to happen.

The rematch would probably happen in Sept.gilgamesh wrote:Wait for a rematch (next May) in all likelihood unfortunately, I'd prefer he fight Cotto or Saunders in December or January, but I don't look for it to happen.

Is Golovkin afraid to not lose or look bad against Saunders since he doesn't talk about unifying with him ? I mean it is his dream.
Re: So what will GGG do ? Unify, Vacate, Wait for rematch, have soft fights ??
Saunders claims to want to fight GGG in a unification doesn't he? If I'm GGG I'd want to find out whether he's for real or just mouthing off.
Re: So what will GGG do ? Unify, Vacate, Wait for rematch, have soft fights ??
For sure golovkin wouldn't be afraid of losing to Saunders. I'd be amazed if he looked bad vs him either. Close to a certainty that Saunders gets knocked out
The frustrating thing is fighting Saunders does nothing for golovkins resume, but being undisputed is quite a rare achievement. I'd like him to have all the belts

He'll wait until may if they get it booked.

I've never known GGG to swerve anyone, but Canelo will.

Gomez said that they are discussing a March possibility for the rematch along with May.

Golovkin isn't going to be allowed to participate in a voluntary defence of his titles by GBP, the WBC and also the IBF.
Tom Loeffler won't allow GGG to risk being stripped of his belts, because it reduces his bargaining power at the negotiating table for the Canelo rematch.
Golovkin is approaching 36 years of age and the inevitable wear and tear resulting from training camp and also a tough Canelo bout, means that he probably needs longer to recuperate between fights. So Gennady might prefer a rest.
The only viable alternative, which would make an interim bout financially viable, would be for GGG to face Billy Joe Saunders. Most governing bodies provide special exemptions from participating in mandatory title defences if their champs want to engage in a title unification bout.

GGG should fight Saunders. Then Canelo rematch in may. If canelo pussies out, which he prob will, move up to 168 for 2-3 fights and retire. Even if there ia no canelo rematch, everyone knows that GGG beat him in the first fight.

Golovkin will almost certainly have at least two more consecutive bouts at 160lbs, because he's aiming to break Hopkins' title defence record.klitoris wrote:GGG should fight Saunders. So we are unlikely to see GGG even consider leaving his 160lbs comfort zone for at least a year.
Re: So what will GGG do ? Unify, Vacate, Wait for rematch, have soft fights ??
..considering Canelo is not very anxious to give him rematch any time soon, I would expect GGG to unify the belts and then, probably in May, fights Canelo..

..my understanding is that Canelo's team want to delay it at least till May 2018, considering this, I guess he can try and unify the belts Dec/Jan. 2018 and only THEN fight Canelo..Enlightened-One wrote:What do you mean by this?greg wrote:..considering Canelo is not very anxious to give him rematch any time soon...

HBO and Golden Boy Promotions will always attempt to optimise the revenue stream realised from their biggest stars by scheduling their PPV events at specific times of the year that have a proven track record of generating the most buys possible.greg wrote:..my understanding is that Canelo's team want to delay it at least till May 2018, considering this, I guess he can try and unify the belts Dec/Jan. 2018 and only THEN fight Canelo..Enlightened-One wrote:What do you mean by this?greg wrote:..considering Canelo is not very anxious to give him rematch any time soon...
Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Independence Day have traditionally been the preferred fight dates for the last three generation of PPV stars (Canelo, Mayweather Jr. & De La Hoya).
If you review the BoxRec resumes of these three guys, you’ll surely find a plethora of their bouts taking place on or around the 5th May and the 16th September. This has been going on since the nineties, so the concept that I’m trying to convey should not be unfamiliar to genuine boxing aficionados.
Canelo has consistently maintained a biannual fight schedule every year for the last six years. Golovkin himself only competed twice last year and we are extremely unlikely to see him enter the ring for a third time before the end of 2017.
Therefore, it would be inappropriate for you to suggest that “Canelo is not very anxious” to engage in a rematch against Golovkin or even doing his upmost to “delay” it, considering both teams are already in the midst of negotiating this fight, coupled with the fact that the Mexican is only doing what has continued to do since the start of 2012.
Simply put: no one can possibly accuse Alvarez of behaving out-of-character specifically to avoid facing GGG again.

Yes, it does. A win would clearly be a top 10 result for Golovkin, probably top 5.

Even for statistical purposes, beating another champion would be good for the resume.Horse wrote:Gennady GolovkinOssyrules wrote:The frustrating thing is fighting Saunders does nothing for golovkins resume,

It's certainly a lot better than waiting.boxing_rocks wrote:Even for statistical purposes, beating another champion would be good for the resume.
Would Alvarez and his team have a problem with this fight?
Re: So what will GGG do ? Unify, Vacate, Wait for rematch, have soft fights ??
Fight Saunders as soon as possible. GGG deserve to be an undisputed middleweight champion of world. Saunders deserve beating.
Fight with Charlo is also option

They would, and unfortunately they have Loefler on their side.Horse wrote:It's certainly a lot better than waiting.boxing_rocks wrote:Even for statistical purposes, beating another champion would be good for the resume.

Re: So what will GGG do ? Unify, Vacate, Wait for rematch, have soft fights ??
He can't have soft fights. He has two mandatories, Charlo and Derevyanchenko. I think he'd have an easier time with Charlo, but Derevyanchenko is an effing lion. Win or lose, I can see that fight being a prime-killer.
