Rakhim Chakhkiev, 34, Announces Retirement From Boxing

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Former IBO cruiserweight champion and 2008 Beijing heavyweight gold medalist Rakhim Chakhkiev announced his retirement from prizefighting on Saturday, according to the TASS media agency.

“I’m done with boxing after twenty years of fighting. It’s time to hang’em up. I had dedicated twelve years to amateur boxing, reaching its very peak by becoming the Olympic champion. I consider my achievements in prizefighting to be fairly meaningful. Of course, I haven’t realized my full potential [as a pro] – that’s true – but there’s a number of other activities to be involved and achievements to be earned”, said Chakhkiev.

“I’ll be involved in the sport but I doubt I can achieve more and show more [at the competitive level]. It’s logically flawed to compete with younger boxers, as my best days are behind me. I can show something to the fans but I think it’s time to retire for good”.

Rakhim Chakhkiev retires at the age of 34 with a total record of 26-3, 19 KOs. Aside from being the Olympic champion, Chakhkiev also won 2007 Russian nationals and earned a silver medal at the 2007 Chicago WC – as an amateur.

Chakhkiev made his debut as a pro in 2009 and was a wrecking ball for three and a half years before running into defending WBC champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk, who stopped him in the eighth round of a memorable war, after getting up in the third round.

Chakhkiev managed to get eight wins in a row after that but he was very lucky to survive with a UD in his battle with little-known Brazilian Hamilton Ventura. In his very next fight Chakhkiev was knocked out hard by Ola Afolabi in the defense of his IBO 200lb belt. His latest fight – and defeat – took place in December 2016, when he was stopped in seven by fellow compatriot Maxim Vlasov.

his chin was weak but also he was knocked out because of exhaustion

no one never teached him how to box in professional boxing, he always stayed with his amateur style, good for 3 rounds but not for 12.
I remember that he was considered a favourite vs Wlodarczyk and at the time considered one of the top CW in the world (some even had him in top 3, lots of people in top 5)

A gigantic waste.
It seems to be a disease characteristic of Russian fighters; these guys never want to learn the finesse of the pro game.
First Chakhiev, then Kovalev, and now Kudryashov.

Power alone is not enough in the pros.

..don't think these three belong in the same category..speaking of relying entirely on power, don't believe it's so typical for the post-Soviet school of boxing...

They all seem to consider pro boxing as a Rocky movie and think they know everything and don't need to learn as long as they can crack.

They all run their own training camps and nobody can teach them a thing.
Kud was saying 3 days ago that "He was guaranteeing victory" lol lol

Understandable. Nothing was gonna get better for him as a fighter. His flaws have been found out. He's a dangerous puncher...for 4 or 5 rounds, and then he's out of gas, and a KO victim waiting to happen.

Kudryashov is the same way.

.. regarding 1 und 2 points: not sure which source of information you use to claim that except probably the latest rumours about Kovalev...the bigger question would be why do you think it's typical for the post-Soviet school of boxing ..

Kud was just saying the same shite everybody else does prior to the fight..it surely is embarrassing afterwards..doesn't make him any different from the rest of boxers though..

Kovalev is nothing similar to Kud and Chakh. He is a skilled fighter with a decent chin who knows how to fight in pro boxing. The similarity is in the area of lack of discipline and dedication.

At the scene: "Gassiev: Kudryashov Had Wrong Plan, Dorticos Did His Homework"
Just like Chakhiev and Kovalev; they're so confident in their knockout power they don't care about strategies.

...of course, they care about strategies but even assuming they don't, I don't see why would that make them typical Russian boxers...

Because i don't see Cubans, Americans, Mexicans, Englishmen systematically producing big punchers in love with their power disregarding everything else.

It's exactly what it is.

Well, anyway, Chakhkiev did the right thing; and Kud should have thought twice about asking to compete in the super tourney.
That was a very humiliating and damaging loss.

One can see a failed attempt at left shoulder roll after being stunned the first time; Kud has learned absolutely nothing from the Duradola defeat.
He keeps disrespecting his opponent's power.

Kud was already hurt after the long flurry by Dorticos earlier in the round. The KO was imminent after that.
